I’m a music student at Middlesex University but I’m originally from Coventry. I studied popular music performance for 2 years and music technology for one, along the lines picking up skills in performance, business and theory as well as basic technology skill and intermediate to advanced guitar skill.

Jawa (1996) a Syrian oud player, singer and composer.
I was born in Aleppo, and I grew up in Damascus, Syria. I started playing music at the age of eleven. I chose the Oud as my instrument because my father used to play it everyday at home when I was young. Gradually, I fell in love with it and now I feel an unlimited feeling of freedom while playing it. Graduated from Rotterdam Conservatory in 2021.

Teaching different musical instruments: piano, guitar, oud, oriental singing and oriental maqamat, reading sheet music.

More than 5 years of experience teaching in music academies

Arabic singing: We will learn how to sing correctly, learn the exits of the letters, vocal exercises, and learn how to distinguish the Eastern Maqams in simple ways.

Oud: We will learn how to hold the oud in the correct way, speed exercises, oriental maqams and examples in songs for each maqam.

Piano: musical scales - and we learn about all kinds of chords (harmony) - famous pieces and songs by learning how to read musical notes - exercises to strengthen the fingers

Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years.

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run. With determination and hard work, significant progress can be made in a year, allowing one to play simple melodies.

My teaching emphasizes the Arab maqams, capturing their spirit, nuances, and classical melodies, while also integrating modern playing techniques that I mastered at the Arab Oud House.

I design each lesson carefully according to the student’s level, progressing step by step to ensure steady improvement and deep understanding. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced student, my goal is to help you express yourself through the Oud, master the traditional repertoire, and enjoy the art of improvisation and ornamentation (taqasim).
