My basic premise is that anything you can say, you should be able to write. My strengths are in thematic reading of the text, literary techniques and essay writing. I usually work with the student to help them build a strong understanding of the text, and its wider historical and social content, before helping them to understand its themes and key ideas. From there I work with my students to strengthen their writing (factual or creative) and building of their own ideas on paper. I use a variety of exercises and mediums (film, poetry, novels, rap etc) to achieve this.

As literature is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.

My name is Jaye and I have been a private tutor for seven years, teaching over 100 students in Australia, the UK, India, Spain, Thailand, China and Turkey. In particular I have experience in exam preparation and essay writing. ¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? I have been speaking Spanish for seven years and studied it as a minor in my Bachelor's degree. I have lived and volunteered in Spain and travel there regularly, aswell as read, speak and write in Spanish daily. Not only do I have a strong understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary and a deep love of the language but I also understand how to learn it, as it is my second of five languages.

As I have done when teaching Spanish in the past, I'm able to understand the conceptual gaps and differences between the student's first language (particularly if it's Latin or Asian) and work with the student to jump over those hurdles towards greater comprehension. I use a communicative approach which focuses on building the student's fluency and confidence. Finally, I have a strong understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture and history, and so am able to use interesting and contextually relevant materials to keep lessons engaging and lively.

What are the conditions for success in the Modern Letters and Classics course in high school?

The student must know how to avoid 5 prohibitive pitfalls:

- the "off topic"
- the "wrong way"
- the "paraphrase"
- gossip "
- "impertinence" (the speech lacks meaning)

The student must also meet the following requirements to obtain the average:

- identify the theme of the text.
- identify the author's thesis.
- know how to construct a problem to avoid "paraphrasing".
- know how to find a guideline and build a detailed plan to avoid falling into "chatter".

Understanding what makes a powerful and effective essay is a key part of writing and nailing those exams up ahead. My lessons will involve reviewing my student's writing and working together to find elements that need improvement. We will focus on essay planning, cohesiveness, originality, and exam technique. My sessions will not be lectures and require active participation and effort from myself and my student. If needed, I will set small amounts of homework to encourage even more progress.
