Hi everyone!
After achieving my PhD in communication at the University of Ottawa, I oriented myself to online education to empower learners worldwide. I have been teaching Korean and conversational French for over 3 years in Varsity Tutors. At the moment, my individual learning classes reach 30 sessions per week. I have different levels of courses regarding language classes (Korean and French through beginner, intermediate, and advanced), and I use PPT slides to teach and deliver homework based on each class. I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and left my country when I was 23. The first European country in which I lived was Romania. I studied the Romanian language to become an interpreter. In 1997, I moved to France and studied and worked for 10 years. In 2006, I moved to Canada to consolidate my educational background, attaining a PhD. I am keenly interested in all types of online learning. I wrote my Master's and PhD theses regarding how to empower learners outside of the traditional classroom. I enjoy meeting people, teaching them, and discussing many different topics with them. I am also interested in theology.

Hi Everyone,
Let me briefly introduce myself. I achieved my Ph.D. in communication at the University of Ottawa in 2023. I have been an individual tutor for quantitative research methods courses for seven years and started Varsity in 2022 to help students with statistical concepts and how to use SPSS (Correlations, Regressions, Anova, T-tests, Chi-square, Two-way Anova, Repeated measures, and Logistic regression).
When I was a PhD candidate, I received a lot of help from my instructors, so I decided to help other students in return. Even if I know the major difficulties for understanding statistics, I have to see the assignments and the course content including the syllabus because each professor's approach is different.
I will also need your collaboration to work with me: Your assignments (documents: assignment instructions + course content & dataset) should be sent to me at least 3 days before our session. All assignments should be done by yourself as much as you can, then send your draft to me at least 1 day before our scheduled meeting so that I can give you my feedback during our session. As you will need my help depending on the assignment due dates, I will accommodate as much as I can, so schedules can be made based on your needs. Holder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to:
- consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling
- improve their language skills (allophone students)
- improve their speaking skills (conversation classes)
-profect the written expression

The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing.

For help with writing:

The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson.

For analyzes of oral literary texts:

In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage.

For the corrections of end of studies work:

so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting.

Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone.

For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages.

For adults (FLE):

In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website).

The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling.

Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.

I like to use different methods to teach French to students. It can be through songs, drama, role play or videos. I also very often use situations close to the student's experience, such as describing places they have been or talking about what they have experienced. At the same time, I teach the grammar rules to the student. I now live in regions where French has been spoken for over 30 years. Because I have learned French myself (and I am still learning other languages), I can easily put myself in a student's shoes. I can teach in French, Dutch, English, German and Russian.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

Language is our means of interpersonal communication. Due to advancing globalization and the possibility of communicating with oneself in any corner of the world, it is becoming increasingly important in the workplace to know one's native language.
It's important to me that my students understand the structure of the language, so that intuitive speaking happens through understanding and not through memorization. (You still have to learn vocabulary though ;-) ).
