Writing is an individual and vulnerable process. When we creatively write, we are telling stories, and the effectiveness of each sentence affects how readers interpret our stories and us as writers. I know better than anyone how vulnerable it can be to share your writing. I also have an intimate understanding of the technical writing skills required to keep readers engaged and to get published.

In this class, you'll learn how to:
-Structure stories and paragraphs with appropriate beats and pacing.
-Build complex, fully realized characters.
-Write engaging, realistic dialogue in novel or screenwriting format.
-Hook readers to the page using pacing techniques and red herrings.

I can provide story and character consultation and feedback on your current projects.

This is an advanced class. Please do not sign up for this class unless you have experience in creative writing. This may be a good class for a writer who has just finished their first novel and is looking for advice on editing and story consultation. It also may be a good opportunity for writers who have finished novels or scripts and are looking for advice on a new project. I also offer beginner and intermediate creative writing classes

I love to teach. I come from a family of teachers and grew up in a household where my parents were both active, enthusiastic principals.

I started teaching English while I was studying psychology for my bachelor's degree. I fell in love with the international connections I was able to make with teaching ESL. Not only was I teaching students all over the world, but I got the opportunity to teach overseas in Korea where I taught adult students business English, conversational English, and book discussion. I've taught low-level beginners to advanced speakers and writers.

I'm a published author and produced screenwriter. I know how one sentence can have an incredible amount of impact. I have written dozens of novels, novellas, and scripts, and I have ghostwritten and edited mysteries, thrillers, horror, sci-fi, romance, and non-fiction to lead me to a successful freelance career.

This course is aimed at learners with intermediate knowledge of Mandarin who wish to further develop their oral expression, writing and reading comprehension skills.

Together we will talk, read, and write about everyday and current topics (from studying, work, and travel to social media and Chinese culture).
