Tutoring: Flute Lessons and Music Theory Lessons Available

I’m a flute teacher who gives lessons in London. I teach students of all ages, ranging in ability from beginners to those studying for their music degrees. I’m available for modern, baroque, and keyed classical flute lessons. I also teach music theory lessons up to ABRSM Grade 5. I’m also available for in person lessons or online flute lessons using Zoom.

I’m a flute teacher who gives lessons in London. I teach students of all ages, ranging in ability from beginners to those studying for their music degrees. I’m available for modern, baroque, and keyed classical flute lessons. I also teach music theory lessons up to ABRSM Grade 5. I’m also available for in person lessons or online flute lessons using Zoom.
I’m currently flute and music theory teacher at Graveney School in London, where I also direct the Flute Ensemble and Early Music Ensemble. My teaching experience includes private tuition, work for schools projects, a post as modern and baroque flute teacher for the University of East Anglia (2007-11), and work coaching and performing in education projects for The Hanover Band and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
I prepare students for ABRSM graded exams, university, A-Level, and GCSE performance exams, concerts, and competitions. I have experience of assisting students in their preparations for school music scholarship auditions, with recent success for students who have passed the required ABRSM Grade 5 with distinction in year 6, and been offered 11+ music scholarships to Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls, Channing School for Girls, Belmont School, Frances Holland School, Queen’s College, Kingsdale School, and North Bridge House School.
In addition I also teach several students, especially adult learners, who just want to learn for their own enjoyment.

Laura BA (Hons) MMus MA specialises in the performance of 17th, 18th & 19th century works on historical flutes. She is Co-Chief Executive / Artistic Director, and Principal Flute with The Vauxhall Band, Co-Principal Flute with The Hanover Band, and has also performed with other leading historical performance ensembles such as the London Handel Orchestra, Southern Sinfonia, Arcangelo, Meridian Sinfonia, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, La Nuova Musica, Armonico Consort, The Parley of Instruments, Solomon’s Knot, Little Baroque Company, Musicians of London, The Feinstein Ensemble, and the Pythagoras Ensemble, for who she was Historical Performance Curator, in venues such as Buckingham Palace, the Southbank, St John’s, Smith Square, Cadogan Hall, Wigmore Hall, and abroad.
Keen to share her experiences, Laura has worked with The Hanover Band and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment on education projects. She currently teaches flute and music theory at Graveney School in London, and has many private students of modern and historical flutes. Previous teaching experience includes a post as modern and baroque flute teacher for the University of East Anglia from 2007-11.
Laura received a MA in Historical Performance from the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied baroque and classical flutes with Lisa Beznosiuk and Rachel Brown, supported by the Winifred Disney Award. She won the prestigious Nancy Nuttall Early Music Prize and graduated with Distinction.
In addition, Laura read music at the University of East Anglia, receiving a BA (Hons) and a MMus in Performance Studies. She was awarded four major bursaries for performance studies from the School of Music (Hilda Houssart, Britten-Pears, Imogen Holst and Frank Thistlethwaite Scholarships) which enabled her to receive modern and baroque flute lessons from William Sleath.
