Hi, my name is Jeremy and I’m a professional funk bassist. I've been playing music for 19 years, having performed and composed with many groups and ensembles across England and Belgium.

I will teach you how to reach your goals while having fun in the process, keeping lessons tailored to your personal needs. I have years of experience helping students improve as well as experience in many different styles of music such as Funk, Rock, reggae, jazz, blues etc! Some examples of what you might learn include:

- The basics and advice for beginners
- What makes a good bassline
- Learning songs that you like
- Breaking down rhythms & dynamics
- Essential music theory for bass & more advanced techniques (eg: melodic techniques, rhythmic, slap bass, etc)
- improvising, jamming and playing with others

Appropriate homework/exercises and recordings are provided during lessons. I also like to give advice and direction for people with musical aspirations. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

As a curious and creative individual there are 2 subjects I am truly passionate about. The first is music, which I have been nurturing since I was 8 years old. The second is Physics which I studied at university.

In music, I took drum lessons for 4 years followed by piano lessons for 3 years and music theory lessons for 2 years before I switched to bass guitar for 12 years (ongoing). In bass, I took additional private lessons, I played and toured with jazz ensembles, performed live music and composed originals with numerous bands in Belgium and the UK, went to music summer camps, payed for specific online bass courses, recorded a lot of originals in studios and joined the Brussels Royal Conservatory for 2 years. I am currently learning to sing and playing bass professionally with Kids of The Elephants in Brussels.

In Physics, I achieved 90% at the European School of Brussels II - as well as 85% in further Maths - and completed a Masters in Physics with First Class Honours at the University of Leicester in 2021. I have studied optional modules such as Astrophysics, General Relativity, Space Science, Programming and Medical Physics as well as standard modules such as Electricity & Magnetism, Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity. For my Masters, I wrote a fun and fascinating literature review on Gamma-Ray Bursts and Gravitational Waves and I instigated my own Masters project in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques and Aorta Phantoms due to my interest in medicine.

I am also a very sociable and empathetic person. During my studies, most of my free time consisted of playing music with numerous bands in Leicester and in Brussels. I was equipment & events officer for a large Band & Gigs society featuring 70 active members and regularly collaborated with other music societies (choir, big band, orchestra..) around the university. I have also worked as a student ambassador for my university (talking to parents and their children about my Physics department) and occasionally like to go rollerblading.

Passionate & empathetic teacher. I have a Master's in Physics with honors from the University of Leicester (which was featured at the time as a top 5 Physics university in the UK by The Guardian) and a - french - European School diploma in which I achieved 90% in Physics and 85% in Maths.

Helping others understand difficult topics and skills is something that I am very passionate about as an empathetic person. I have experience teaching Physics and Maths to kids from unprivileged backgrounds at the homework school in Saint-Gilles (CASG du Service Social Juif asbl) as well as 5 years of private teaching.

In my classes, I aim to:

- help students achieve better grades in exams/tests in all branches of Physics & Maths
- clearly explain and break down topics
- give context and or example applications of topics (to improve understanding and memorization)
- help with ADHD & other learning disabilities
- give practical advice for university applications (eg. UCAS in the UK) and discuss the exciting Physics research/work and projects you can work on later in life.

Physics has a plethora of useful and fascinating applications, from the detection of Gravitational Waves and Gamma-Ray Bursts to the development of novel Medical Imaging techniques and Nano-technology (eg: smartphones). It is a subject that I am very passionate about and I hope to make use of my years of experience and extensive knowledge to help you understand and love the subject! Lessons in piano, harpsichord, and historical and modern cello, with program and repertoire, adapted to the goals and speed of each student, whether young, not so young, or adult, for a general introduction to these instruments, for preparation for high music education, as a supplementary aid for exams in music academies, or for a hobby, or for amateur group music-making, or for developing qualities as concentration, coordination, discipline, expressibility, awareness of styles and music history.
In my teaching, I rely mostly on old traditional methods, books, and repertoire, which have proved their efficiency over the time. I also make use of the teaching tradition of partimenti of the old Neapolitan conservatories - exercises for composing that can be applied from early stage. This not only adds a creative element soon after very beginning, but also teaches via practice the basics of harmony and polyphony.
Lessons can be combined (+30min.) with theory/solfege (ear training), if the student wishes.

Giovanna raised and formed in Florence, where she began her guitar studies at the age of five at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. In September, she graduated cum laude and she's currently enrolled in the Master’s program at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, studying with Antigoni Goni.

Winner of many international competitions, she performed plenty of times in Italy and in 2023 she has held a solo concert in Milan for the XXXVIII Società Umanitaria's concerts season. Next to renowned guitarists, such as Luigi Attademo and Giorgio Albiani, she performed the world premiere of Álvaro Company’s Concert Català for ten guitars, in the revision by Vincenzo Saldarelli.

Alongside her performing activity, Giovanna has developed a strong dedication to teaching adults, children, and teenagers. She tailors each learning path to the individual student, carefully balancing personal interests with technical and artistic development, whether for amateur musicians or students preparing for conservatory admission. Her teaching approach places particular emphasis on physical awareness and well-being, guiding students toward healthy and efficient use of the body while playing. Music theory is fully integrated into her lessons and is always connected to practical application on the instrument.
