Standardized tests such as the TOEFL and IELTS put a lot of pressure on candidates, but I have good news! With strong foundational skills and smart test taking strategies, you can boost your score (and your confidence!)

The way I approach TOEFL/IELTS preparation lessons depends on:
-How much time you can commit to preparation before taking the exam
-Which section or sections give you the most difficulty
-Your current level and your desired score range
-Your motivation for taking the test

After a short assessment, we'll practice (some relaxed, some timed) using both short and long versions of past exam questions. I'll teach you to recognize and use the skill sets that apply to each section and learn how they intersect. This way, you'll gain a clearer understanding of how the exam works, lower your test anxiety, and feel more confident on your exam day.

I've been helping students and professionals make these exams more manageable since 2019. My lessons are highly personalized and include written feedback and reference material for you to review and study in and out of class.

Hi, I'm Margie! I've been a certified ESOL teacher and tutor since 2018. Before deciding to work independently online, I taught in both traditional school settings and the private sector.
I teach English for individuals living/working in international environments where English is required, and exam preparation (TOEFL, IELTS). I have a friendly, relaxed style in my lessons, where learners can feel comfortable speaking and asking questions.
My professional interests include etymology, medical English and language acquisition theory. Outside of work I love learning new creative hobbies and listening to music.

Since 2018 I've been teaching and tutoring English to students across the world. I've taught in the private sector, in schools, and now privately online. Many of my students work for international companies or have relocated (or plan to relocate) for work or study and have an immediate need to improve their English. Their goals often include things like better communication for business, making social connections, or simply making day-to-day life in a new country easier.

If this describes you, I can help! I've lived internationally for much of my adult life, and I completely understand all of the wonderful experiences, as well as the challenges, that come with communicating in an international setting.

In my lessons, I help clients to learn, retain, and USE new information. When we practice grammar structures, we do it in contexts that are useful. When we learn new vocabulary, we practice by talking about interesting and memorable topics. Overall, my lessons are low-stress and conversational yet always focused on results.

If your first language isn't English, it can be difficult to express your "true self" in the language, but it gets much easier with practice and persistence! If you are an advanced level student, we'll also work on idiomatic language and cultural references. This helps boost your conversational skills and makes understanding English speakers in general a whole lot easier.

I am studying Mathematics at the University of Cambridge (graduated my bachelor's degree with highest distinction in June 2023, I will start my master's in October 2023) and systematically obtained >90% in mathematics and physics.
