What do I teach? I teach the Arabic language in either of two formats – Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Egyptian Standard Arabic. Why am I teaching? I teach to help students achieve fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Arabic. A secondary reason is to share the culture of Arabic speaking peoples. As an Egyptian fluent in MSA and Egyptian Arabic, I am confident of my ability to achieve both goals. How do I teach? My goal in teaching Arabic is for the student to develop skills which allow them to narrow their distance from the skills of a native speaker. The true, the ultimate goal is to have the student ‘think’ in Arabic. To achieve these goals, I use three types of teaching strategies
