This course develops basic skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin Chinese. It concentrates on pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure and idiomatic expressions. The course also introduces geo-graphical, historical, cultural and social features of Chinese speakers relevant to language learning. Students are expected to learn 250 written Chinese characters.
This course increases speed and fluency of Mandarin Chinese with expanding vocabularies and idioms in conversation, reading comprehension and written expression. Topics cover daily activities, relationships, college life, employment, Chinese customs, traveling, geography, social issues, current events and comparisons between Chinese and American cultures.

I am from China, I am a postdoctoral researcher fellow at the University of Zurich, My second language is English, I want to be a part-time Chinese teacher if you like to learn Chinese. I received the BS degree in mathematics and applied mathematics from the China University of Petroleum (East China), Qingdao, China, in 2014, the MS degree in physical oceanography from the First Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources of China, Qingdao, in 2017, and the Ph.D. degree in cartography and geography information system from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 2021.
Since 2021, he has been a post-doctoral researcher with the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Science Laboratory, Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou, China. Since 2023, he has been a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with the Spatial Ecology & Remote Sensing, Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland. His research activities concern machine learning and water resources based on multi-source remote sensing data.

I'm a Confucius Institute (the ONLY globally recognized official institution for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages) certified Mandarin teacher.

I'm also an official YCT (Youth Chinese Test)/ HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test)/ HSKK (Chinese Proficiency Spoken Test) test examiner.

In addition to giving private lessons, I also teach Chinese at international schools and lead Mandarin immersion Spielgruppe (playgroup) in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. My speciality is teaching children between the age of 2.5 and 12 in an immersive and interactive learning environment. By means of guided game-playing, painting, story-reading, drama activities, song-singing, dancing, and handcraft-making, kids achieve organic language acquisition while having a lot of fun.

The Chinese Conversation Course is designed to improve students' speaking and listening skills in Mandarin Chinese. This interactive and engaging course focuses on improving speaking skills, pronunciation and vocabulary.

Throughout the course, students participate in various speaking activities and dialogues that allow them to practice real-life situations and everyday interactions. You will learn to express yourself confidently and effectively in Chinese, improve your conversation skills and increase your communication skills.

The course content covers a wide range of topics including greeting, introductions, travel, shopping, dining and more. Through role-playing and group discussions, participants develop the ability to communicate with native speakers in both formal and informal situations.

In addition to language practice, cultural aspects are also integrated into the course to give participants insights into Chinese customs, traditions and manners. This cultural understanding improves cross-cultural communication and promotes a deeper appreciation of Chinese language and culture.
