The class is intended for university students in their early years who are preparing for their math exams.

It covers a wide range of topics such as: calculus, analysis, (linear, vector, matrix) algebra, geometry, trigonometry, (basic) statistics, probability, combinatorics, business mathematics, as well as more abstract topics, such as topology, measure/integration theory and functional analysis.

Depending on the student's requirements, lessons may consist of:
- Providing a (comprehensive) overview of the course material, e.g. slides, lecture notes, etc.
- Solving specific (types of) problems, exercises, and (old) exams.
- Assisting with homework and assignments.
- Setting up final reports and projects.

Extra information

Lessons are conducted online using platforms such as Skype or other videoconferencing tools, or they can be held on-site at either the UvA campus "Science Park" in Amsterdam or the VU campus. Alternatively, lessons can also be conducted at my home location within the Amsterdam region.

About Me

I am a mathematician based in the Netherlands (Amsterdam area), holding a PhD at Vrije Universiteit, with a significant academic experience (both research and teaching).

I also have experience with private tutoring. I can cover a wide range of high level math (related) topics (at BSc and MSc level), as well as assisting Master students in applying mathematical / statistical research methods and tools in their master projects in full compliance with the academic standards.

My primary focus is to help students overcome their math anxiety - which is one of the main reasons for students' lack of self confidence/initiative - and put them "on track" for individual study. For the more advanced students, I am looking to stimulate investigation skills required for a thorough understanding of the study subject.

During my studies in Econometrics at the University of Amsterdam (graduated in 2015, MSc.) and in addition to my job as a consultant, I have always taught mathematics and statistics to secondary school students and university students (HBO and WO) with great pleasure. Since 2022 I work parttime as a math teacher and educational advisor in the Emma Children's Hospital in Amsterdam and besides I teach private students.

I am a certified communication scientist (WO, MSc.) who teaches computational data analysis methods in SPSS, Python, R and thesis supervision.

During the lessons we can cover the basics of computational methods or data analysis. I can also help you gain a better understanding of the data structure, design a questionnaire in QUALTRICS (or similar program), or collect data together with you. We can do this in the programs Python, R or SPSS. I am also an expert in supervising theses.

I give lessons of one hour as standard, but these can be longer if desired. If you are looking for guidance for a longer period, I can offer you a package where you get a discount on my hourly rate.

I believe anyone can learn math. And with an average rating of 8.5 for my exam training at, among others, lyceo, I have experienced a lot of others doing the same.

We usually start with some (simple) exercises around the subject to gauge your understanding. This way I can construct a tailor-made approach that guarantees you will see the light. There are, of course, no real guarantees in education. But I can guarantee that after every hour of tutoring, you will be a little closer to the math genius that you really are.

In addition, in the past two years, I have gained a lot of experience in online education. I now have a drawing tablet, an iPad, and an external microphone (worth 300 euros) to be able to deliver the best experience online.

Mathematics, physics and arithmetic are subjects that many people have difficulty with. I believe that with good guidance, anyone can get a good grade for these subjects. During the lessons we look at what the stumbling points are, which I will then explain in the best possible way what is clearest for the student. Exact subjects can be made much easier by applying handy tricks. During the lessons I will convey this in the clearest possible way. Everyone thinks differently and I take that into account. Together we will see what works best for you!

My name is Christelle, I recently graduated from a research masters in Genetics and Psychology and I am now working as a PhD student in the genetics of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Math, at all levels, is a subject that requires a lot of effort, time, and understaning. Being followed by a tutor is in some cases essential to understand all of the topics and succeed in tests, exams and even homeworks.
Coming from a Mathematical and Scientifical High School in collaboration with the Padua University I learned how to deal with many different students for many different topics. If you are struggling with a specific subject, we can look together at what you are good at and what we can best focus on during the sessions. A few subjects that I have coached students in in the past are: mathematics, business economics, economics, arithmetic, accounting/accountancy, cost accounting, managerial accounting, financial accounting, corporate finance, risk management and investments. I give tips on which information is most important, how you can best prepare for the subject, and how you can best read test questions. This method has proven to be very effective!

During exam training I work with old exams with a focus on the latest developments in the field. During the training I teach the students how an exam is structured so that they feel familiar with the final exam.
