تشير الصيغة الكيميائية إلى نوع وعدد الذرات فى جزئ المادة التى يرمز لها برمز معين وبالتالى نتعرف على شكل المادة سواء كانت منفردة او مركبة مع نفسها او مادة أخرى
مثال جزئ الماء يرمز لها بالرمز H2O حيث يمثل الرمز H إلى ذرة الهيدروجين والرمز O إلى ذرة الأكسجين والرقم 2 إلى عدد ذرات الهيدروجين الموجودة فى جزئ الماء
