Jawa (1996) a Syrian oud player, singer and composer.
I was born in Aleppo, and I grew up in Damascus, Syria. I started playing music at the age of eleven. I chose the Oud as my instrument because my father used to play it everyday at home when I was young. In this course, we will dive together into learning each musical instrument through an integrated approach that enhances your technical skills and satisfies your passion for music.

In Oud, we will focus on:

Musical Maqams: Deepen your understanding of Arabic Maqams and how to apply them to playing. Musical Notes: Learn to read and perform notes on the oud with skill. Pick Exercises: Improve playing techniques using a pick to develop movement between the strings. Technique Exercises: Build playing skills through various exercises to improve speed and accuracy. Oriental Songs: Learn to play the most famous oriental tunes and songs to be able to give a distinctive performance. Musical Pieces: Study traditional and contemporary oriental pieces while developing individual performance skills.

As for the piano, we will focus on:

Musical Notes: Learn to read and write notes easily while improving your musical skills. Musical Scales: Study major and minor scales and their effect on playing pieces. Chords: Learn to build different chords and how to use them in playing. Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years.

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run. With determination and hard work, significant progress can be made in a year, allowing one to play simple melodies.
