Hello dear aspiring cellists!

My name is David and I recently live in Ghent.
I started playing the cello when I was barely 3 and have since received a range of teachers and techniques that I would like to share with you! For example, I have been a regular student at various concervatories since I was 13, such as the KCB and CRB in Brussels, KCA antwerpen, CvA Amsterdam, ... With teachers such as Didier, Marie Hallynck, Walter Grimmer, Edmont Baert, Justus Grimm, Lâzlo Fenyö, Claudio Bohorquez, Jeroen Reuling, Olsi Leka, Jerôme Pernoo, Dimitri Ferschtmann, Vladimir Perlin, ... in both French, Russian, German and Belgian cello schools.
I am also a winner and laureate of many national and international competitions from Belgium to Bulgaria and have a rich experience in chamber music and solo recitals with organizations such as the Flanders Festival, the Musique de Chambre de Wallonie, the Arte Amanti festival, etc. with national and international artists and colleagues. and as a soloist with orchestra. (concertos such as Shostakovitch, Shumann, Haydn, Tchaikovsky's rococo etc). Recently I also do more and more studio work outside the classical genre. I have also been giving private lessons to advanced and less advanced aspiring professional and enthusiastic amateurs for years and I provide coaching for exams and competitions. Hi! I'm a violinist currently finishing a Master's in Music at Royal Conservatory in Ghent. I started playing violin at the age of 6, and studying with numerous professors made me realize how important an individualized pedagogical approach is for good development. My aim is to motivate students to be creative and enjoy playing music, helping them express their own ideas. A relaxed and natural technique is always one of my focuses, to avoid future injuries and to find ease while playing that will allow you to explore your musicality and feel free.

I studied at the conservatories of Antwerp and Ghent and obtained my master's degree as a performing musician and my diploma in specific teacher training. In addition to experience as a performing musician, I am also active as a teacher of solfège and cello. I have experience as a teacher with children and adults.

Clarinet lessons at all levels: from absolute beginners to advanced players.
For me as a teacher it is very important to start from the wishes, needs and competences of the student himself.
You can follow lessons via webcam, or at your home near the Ghent - Kortrijk region.

Today - after completing an extensive selection procedure - Laurens is professionally active as a clarinetist with the Royal Marine Band, one of the prestigious orchestras of the Belgian army.

In addition to his education at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, Laurens has had the opportunity to learn several times in a number of masterclasses by, among others, Arno Piters (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Davide Lattuada (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Bart de Karter (New Amsterdam Clarinet Quartet), Pascal Moragues (Orchester de Paris), Ricardo Mataredonna (The La Monnaie Theatre), David Van Maele (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides), Bart Watté (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides) etc.

Both as a freelancer and an active member, Laurens has played in various orchestras, such as the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force, Frascati Symphonic, the Euregio Youth Orchestra, the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra, La Chapelle Sauvage, Flanders Young Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Harmony Orchestra...

Since 2021, Laurens has been a member of the Meraki Wind Quintet, with which he has already successfully participated in a number of competitions, including the IMC International Music Competition 2023 (1er Prix à l'unanimité), the Euterpe Music Awards 2022 (gold prize), the Classic Pure Vienna International Music Competition 2022 (special mention), and the Fanny Mendelssohn International Online Competition 2022/23 (second prize).

In addition, Laurens is also active as a conductor, both in a symphonic and harmonic orchestra. Customized lessons:
Teaching beginning children, beginning adults, or experienced students are completely different experiences that require completely different methods.

A constant focus in all cases is to ensure that students learn notation and music reading, which gives them some independence.

As a first step, I create a plan together with the student, depending on his or her personal goals, and supplement this with musical pieces that I think will complement the learning path.

I offer piano lessons in English, French or Italian for students of all ages and levels. Lessons focus on developing technique, musical understanding, listening skills, and artistic expression.

My teaching is grounded in the Faber Piano Adventures method and enriched with creative activities such as improvisation, four-hand duets, and simple composition exercises. Each lesson is adapted to your interests and pace, whether you are learning for personal enjoyment, creative exploration, or to support other musical practices.

For more advanced students, I also incorporate selected excerpts from Mikrokosmos by Béla Bartók, as well as pieces from the classical repertoire chosen in dialogue with the student.

As a conservatory-trained singer and composer with five years of teaching experience, I bring a dynamic, relational approach that connects instrumental technique with creativity and personal expression. Lessons take place in the student’s home in Ghent, Brussels, and nearby areas, and last 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on age and level.
