Math and Physics Tutoring For Secondary School Students

Is your son/daughter struggling with the way his/her teacher is explaining things in class? Are they having difficulties keeping up with the learning pace or are they still struggling with understanding the basic principles? Do they have an issue with staying focused for prolonged periods of time, or do they simply not enjoy the subject at all?

My name is Farris, and I am currently a 3rd-year Aerospace Engineering student studying at TU Delft. I have a strong international background, having lived most of my life outside the Netherlands and at international schools. Upon completing my secondary education at The International School of The Hague in 2020, I began tutoring students from the school who struggled with mathematics and physics and have been doing so ever since.

My tutoring sessions often follow quite an unorthodox approach. As a younger student myself, I struggled massively with mathematics and physics at a younger age, mostly due to issues with focusing and understanding, as well as being diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Over the years I developed methods of dealing with such issues, and it is those methods that I use in my tutoring sessions to help students progress in their academics.

I live near the Rotterdam Centrum area. Tutoring sessions can happen at my house, at public locations (Rotterdam Central Library), at the home of the student (depending on location), or online on a call. If a student is hesitant to learn one-on-one, or has a friend/classmate whom would also like to be tutored, dual sessions can take place whereby both students are tutored simultaneously.

In mathematics, you can learn basic geometry, and algebra, and progress to the level of applied mathematics, including calculus, differential equations, and more.

Similarly, in physics, you can expect to cover topics ranging from the fundamentals to advanced levels. As I hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I can provide assistance in engineering subjects such as heat transfer, thermodynamics, and more.

Furthermore, I have a master's degree in Photovoltaic Systems (solar energy), so I can offer guidance and help in this field as well.

In mijn methode van lesgeven laat ik de leerling erg actief deelnemen. Ik stel hem/haar veel vragen over de stof die meer inzicht geven in de theorie. Naast de vragen laat ik een leerling ook af en toe een cruciaal stukje theorie aan mij uitleggen. Ik corrigeer hem/haar waar nodig. Hierdoor krijgt de leerling een beter beeld van de kern van de stof.
Een typische les ziet er zo uit:
Ter voorbereiding, als de leerling dit wil, nemen we samen de lastigere theorie door. Wil de leerling dit niet, dan wijs ik beknopt op de aandachtspunten van de te behandelen stof en stel een aantal vragen. Hetgeen waar de moeilijkheden liggen bestuderen we samen tot de theorie gesnapt wordt. Daarna maken we samen een opdracht van gemiddeld niveau, daarna een opdracht van gemiddeld niveau waarin de leerling zijn/haar denkstappen vertelt en tenslotte een wat lastigere opgave om zowel de theorie als het opdrachten maken er nóg beter in te krijgen. Aan het eind van de les evalueren we de les.

You have to get used to the different subdomains and then let them merge with each other. Chemistry is also referred to as a stack science, in which you apply previously acquired knowledge within new knowledge to be acquired.
