I have a degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish. I hold a master's degree in Transactional Analysis, a sub-field of psychology. My hobbies include salsa music, watching movies, traveling, biking, swimming, and exercising. Before becoming an independent teacher, I taught English at a public school in Oakland, California. Previously, I served as a sales manager for a travel agency in both Mexico and California.

For lessons, I begin with a diagnostic session to understand your goals, needs, and interests. This is basically an evaluation so I can see what your "wants and needs" are, as well as your goals, requirements, interests, and we'll go from there. At the end of the first session I will give you an estimate as to the timeline needed to reach your objectives.

My teaching methodologies include L1-L2, Grammar, Direct Method, Communicative Approach, Eclectic Approach, Intensive Conversational Method, and Role-Play Workshops (especially useful for practicing job interviews and presentations).
I specialize in General English, Business English, IELTS, and English for healthcare professionals. Typically, it takes two to three months to reach C1 level from B1-B2. I offer tailored classes, emphasizing collocations, grammar, sentence structure, speech, informal colloquial (spoken) language, phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions, and verb-preposition usage. I also use a lot of exercises, free conversations, discussion topics, role plays and some grammar if and when needed.

I love to tailor my classes based on my student's personality. I am good at reading people and understanding their capacity to digest what is being presented to them. Based on that my method changes and adapts to their abilities but mainly I love to keep it relevant, timely and trends related. It is good to use the surroundings to teach, it also helps the student engage and see how this language can be used. Fun and important fact, I was not born a native English speaker, I actually acquired the language and I do have a native level (American) English. I believe this enables me to be a good teacher to those who do not speak the language, or don't speeak it as well as a mother tongue, because unlike someone who was born speaking it, I know the keys to learning a language and sounding exactly like those who are native. This is mainly because when I learnt English I did not learn it as sounds, grammar and sayings. I learnt it as a culture. That is why I am often confused for a native speaker. This is what I want to give to my English students.
