Erfahrung / Qualifikationen

I’ve been teaching and tutoring languages since middle school, tailoring my lessons to a variety of goals, such as preparing for language exams (HSK), fostering cultural interest, and supporting business communication. My journey as an educator began with my first student, an American expat in mainland China, who initially struggled with Mandarin grammar and tones. Through dedicated practice, he overcame these challenges and eventually gained the confidence to navigate daily life using only Mandarin. I also have experience teaching K-6 students, which strengthened my understanding of adapting methods to different learning levels.

I prefer to teach through interactive, engaging lessons that bring the language to life. However, for those with exam goals, structured practice and homework are sometimes necessary. Currently, I am also helping adults who are married to Chinese partners and want to communicate more naturally with their families. Hi, I'm Leyi. Born and grow up in mainland China, but I have been moving around the world. I have been teaching Mandarin for six years, and I started teaching Mandarin Chinese when I was in high school to kindergarteners/grade-school students/adults in the US. I am chatty, effective, and patient, so most of my students like me (or I think so? hahaha). Because I have experience with linguistics as a subject and was exposed to many languages while growing up, I like to use students' first and second language (language-specific), my academic, and language knowledge to have personalised study plans for my students. I do not believe in a grammar-focused study plan, and I hope my students can learn the things they want (one student particularly wanted to learn Chinese poetry, which meant teaching him modern Chinese syntax or rhyme would not make sense). Some of my students felt they were more prepared when they went on exchange. In terms of characters learning (both simplified and traditional), I also would re-arrange the plans (ex. an exam-focused plan would contain a denser portion of character learning than a person who just wants to watch C-drama ).

I am a professional full-time Chinese Mandarin teacher from the North of China where Mandarin comes from.
I have been teaching for about 10 years as a teacher. I have my own school and website for studying Chinese. Students' ages are from 3 to adults. They are from all over the world. You can study with me online / come to my office /Go-home lessons. Classes can be one-to-one or group classes.

I have been helping numerous people learn to speak Chinese and do exam HSK. Children always have fun learning Mandarin with me. I grew up and had educations in China. I moved to Europe for teaching Chinese in 2019 Nov.
I am fun, active, very patient, and responsible. I have never come late to all of my classes for more than 10 years.
For children's classes, I prepare songs, videos, cartoons, teaching, and explaining at the same time, They learn really fast and never feel bored when they are excited with a fun teacher and materials. I believe that interest is the best teacher. So I try my best to prepare before classes and send materials after classes to students.
