Serious endeavouring to entertain through media studies, particularly filmmaking, and current affairs. After studying media and film, I worked at the BBC from 1989 to 1991 mainly as an assistant to chief documentary editor Jane Val Baker. The following years, I directed several short films on communal subjects such as poverty, classism, racism, homelessness, social division and poverty. Throughout this decade I worked on numerous pop video clips (as an art director and director), and also TV commercials, eventually directing a Lee cooper ad. Towards the end of the 199O’s I directed a documentary on the popular hip- hop group the Fugees, before moving to Paris, France where I directed ‘Actress’, a wry comedy produced by the renowned Parisian production company Mic-Mac In 2002 I wrote and directed my first feature film ‘Toothache’ aka ‘Rage De Dent’, a bitter satirical comedy following a group of bored middle class artists and their troubles in love during a weekend in Paris. Starring Julie Depardieu, Ludivine Sagnier ‘Toothache’ (rage de dent) was produced by Arte France Cinema and Mic Mac productions. My second feature length film ‘Nadine’ was shot in September 2006. The film follows a teenage self-harmer her fatal battle with mental health issues. Nadine premiered at the Odyssee Cinema in Strasbourg, France in July 2008 as part of the British cycle of films alongside Ken Loach’s ‘The wind that shakes the barley’ and Stephan Frear’s ‘The Queen’. It was also shown in competition at Ghent film festival and Cork film festival, Rome international Film festival and several other international festivals. Between 2011 and 2016, I was the co-author of several documentaries produced by France Televisions and the French-German TV channel ARTE. In 2019 I was the co-author on the feature docudrama ‘In our paradise’, produced by Idéale Audience and directed by Claudia Marschal. ‘In our paradise’ premiered at DOC/FEST Sheffield in June 2019, and was selected at the Sarajevo Film Festival in August 2019, at the YIDFF in October 2019 and at the Cork Film Festival in November 2019. 2020 saw the completion of my 3rd film as a feature film director with the existentialist thriller ‘Man in wood’ featuring a special guest appearance from the talented singer/actress Lauryn Hill. Whilst also during the same year I created ‘The Black Victory’, an independent production and promotion platform for film, music and cultural content. The teaser for ‘In the greenhouse’, a pysclogical thriller which I wrote and will direct This innovative digital platform has links to several other social network platforms and is currently developing an all female podcast that aims to tackle diverse subjects from voices that are powerful, engaging, yet rarely given the spotlight they merit.

Adobe Photoshop for everyone and for everything - Amsterdam (Amsterdam)
Piotr
I was very pleased with the inspired lesson Piotr gave me. He prepared his lesson, was accurate, full with new inspiration and very acquainted with various technics in Photoshop. He could communicate ( for me at my level) easily and was bringing me through several difficulties. Beside that he showed an deep insight in artistic approach of my artwork. Definitely worth it, Karin Hovius. Only I don't know if this is for the very beginner, you should be a little bit more advanced. But I am convinced that he can also manage beginners.
