Hello!

My name is Abby. I come from Chengdu, Sichuan, the beautiful hometown of the giant panda. Life brought me to Switzerland for love, and now I am happy to share my culture and language here. I also can speak Cantonese, Japanese and Korean.

Before moving, I worked as an English teacher in schools, where I gained rich experience in teaching languages. This background helps me understand how to make learning both effective and enjoyable.

In my Mandarin classes, you don’t just learn words and grammar—you also explore stories, games, songs, and cultural activities that build creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in English for Professionals from Universiti Sains Malaysia. This program emphasized not only advanced English language proficiency but also practical applications of communication in academic, professional, and intercultural contexts. During my studies, I received training in areas such as linguistics, business communication, translation, and educational methodology, which gave me a solid foundation in both theory and practice.

I'm a Confucius Institute (the ONLY globally recognized official institution for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages) certified Mandarin teacher.

I'm also an official YCT (Youth Chinese Test)/ HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test)/ HSKK (Chinese Proficiency Spoken Test) test examiner.

In addition to giving private lessons, I also teach Chinese at international schools and lead Mandarin immersion Spielgruppe (playgroup) in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. My speciality is teaching children between the age of 2.5 and 12 in an immersive and interactive learning environment. By means of guided game-playing, painting, story-reading, drama activities, song-singing, dancing, and handcraft-making, kids achieve organic language acquisition while having a lot of fun.

The predominant features you will find in my class are tailor-made teaching materials and methods that are customized to best suit your specific study objectives (Preschooler Chinese, K-12 Chinese, YCT, HSK, Beginner Chinese, Conversational Chinese, Business Chinese...etc.).

As a language learner myself (B.A. major in Spanish and currently studying German), I have great patience and willingness to help you on your journey towards Chinese proficiency, because I know how frustrating it could get at times. Being in the shoes of a linguistics student for years also enables me to better instruct you, as I understand very well what are the things a learner would find helpful.

The class is tailored for every student. The class can be "Chinese speaking", "Chinese writing", and comprehensive Chinese that includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The class will be delivered based on a specific textbook and redesigned for each student. This class can be online and face-to-face, and last 45 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes. The age of students should be above 2 years old.
Private activity class:
The class is tailored for every student and delivered based on interesting topics. The topics are about Chinese culture, daily conversation, and language for a trip to China. This class can be online and face-to-face, and last 45 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes. The age of students should be above 2 years old.
Group class:
I also offer language classes or activity classes for a group of students. The number of students in a group should be from 3 to 6.
