Hello! My name is Cherise. I am originally from Durban in South Africa. I am a qualified teacher with 12 years experience. I have lived in South Africa, UK, UAE, Isle of Man and now the Netherlands. My sessions are relaxed and I focus on my student's individual needs and requirements.

I love the great outdoors! There are so many beautiful things to see and places to visit on this amazing planet. I like to stay active with daily walks or cycling, even in the rain! I adore all animals and really hope to own a small holding one day. I would love to keep some chickens, ducks and maybe a goat or two. It would be a dream to grow my own vegetables and to teach my son about being self-sufficient.

I completed my Bachelor Degree in Foundation Phase Education in 2005, at Embury Teacher Training College in Durban, South Africa. I then started teaching kindergarten in 2006 for 2 years before broadening my horizons in the UK and UAE. I returned to South Africa and taught in a private Catholic School for 7 years before immigrating to the Isle of Man and now the Netherlands.

I am a qualified Foundation Phase teacher. I have worked with children from Kindergarten until 12 years of age, in classroom settings, in both South Africa and the UK. I am currently tutoring children and adults from a range of different countries and helping them to become more proficient in English.

I was born in Istanbul in 1983. I started teaching Turkish while studying Turkish Language and Literature at university. I worked in a language school and at universities. I have been teaching Turkish professionally for more than 16 years. I also taught Turkish for 5 years when I was a university student. In 2018, I obtained a TESOL certificate and also began teaching English.

I teach both adults and children. Creating a comfortable learning environment for my students is one of my top priorities. If you would like to learn Turkish or English in a consistent and structured way, I would be happy to work with you.

I hold firmly to two main principles: creating a comfortable space for learning and building an encouraging atmosphere.

My students often describe me as patient, positive, and well-organised. Over time, I’ve found my own way of making Turkish feel easier, more enjoyable, and more practical to learn.

I love shaping each lesson around my students’ interests, needs, and learning styles. I adapt my teaching to the needs of students with special conditions, such as ADHD and OCD.

In my lessons, you’ll never feel afraid of making mistakes. Before long, you’ll start noticing them on your own and correcting yourself naturally.

Even though I use a communicative approach, my lessons are supported by a solid understanding of grammar, as Turkish has a very different structure.

I use the course book set prepared by Istanbul University. It follows a strategic approach to learning Turkish and includes all language skills—reading, grammar, writing, listening, watching, and speaking—from A1 to C2. All of these skills are essential for conversation.

I teach English for the A1 and A2 levels.

The workbook offers many exercises for homework or revision, and I support the book with my own authentic materials. I also use an interactive board that you can view anytime, and you can edit it as well. Repetition-based speaking practice plays an important role in my lessons.

I speak English well, and a bit of Italian, and I have also studied Persian and German grammar. I am interested in literature.
