A Comprehensive Introduction to English Literature

English Literature is a broad and expansive subject area. In this course, we'll cover a range of topics and authors inspired by current exam board recommendations and my own personal must-reads and recommendations as supplementary. Of course, this course is tailored to you, so we can cover any era or author that interests you alongside any preparations for examination.

The course can span all the way from the Medieval to Today in terms of content, and provide a grounding in whichever literature you as a student could need. For anyone looking to sign up, please include the book/books or period you would like to be tutored in.

Hi! I'm James, and I'm a current third-year English student at KCL. Teaching has been a lifelong passion for me, and so has my love and appreciation for literature.

Studying with me is very much an individual experience based on whatever you need; for instance, if you love to read, I can send you more material, if you need help with essay writing, we can go through rubrics and my previous first-class A-Level and University essays - it's very much up to you. I'm kind and patient and understand that literature isn't always everyone's cup of tea, but my goal would be to get you as a student to fall in love with at least one piece before our time together ends.

I have over 4 years of experience in teaching and tutoring English as a second language. I am currently a PhD researcher at King’s College London and run this tutoring business on the side, as I enjoy motivating students to learn new skills and overcome challenges.

I have studied English language and literature for all of my academic life and being multi-lingual (Fluent in Dutch and Sinhala), I understand how difficult it is to learn a language as a complete beginner. I am an empathetic and understanding teacher, but I also know how to push your limits and show you what you are capable of.

I will assign some, flexible homework for out of class, but most of the content will be addressed in the lesson. I am available to teach all levels of English or aid in English literature, but please message me for more information!

Hello everyone,

I am a 22 years old Belgian Female who recently moved in London in order to pursue my law studies. I completed my bachelor at the University College Maastricht in the Netherlands, and have acquired a lot of tutoring experience over the past three years. Indeed, alongside my studies, I have always dedicated some of my time to tutor French/English/Dutch lessons to people of all ages.

My lessons are taught in a way as to encourage my students to live the language they want to learn. I give considerable importance to improving one's verbal abilities, and my lessons are structured as follows:

- Warm-up games (i.e., vocabulary games).
- Verbal Skills: Debate on any topic of the student's interest.
- Writing Skills: Small essays to write at home following the debate (correction during the next class where attention shall be paid to grammar rules, etc.).

Philosophy follows wisdom. This class will explore a panorama of philosophical texts through the poetic diction of stories and myths. Offering close-readings and lectures from Heraclitus to Shakespeare, Kierkegaard to Ávila, students are invited to engage and formulate new ideas. Personal requests are very welcome in consultation.
