I specialise in teaching song writing and composition in all genres to any ability. In lessons we will look at harmony, melody, lyrics and if desired music production to help advance your songwriting ability.

As a songwriter and producer I have had music featured on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 and many more. I also have a masters degree in songwriting and composition from Leeds College of Music and a 1st class BA(Hons) degree in songwriting and jazz performance.

I am a passionate guitarist, songwriter and producer. I love to perform live across the UK with various bands and to write and record my own and other people's original music!
I love teaching, and feel passionate about sharing my experiences and knowledge with other musicians.

Having both a Masters Degree and a BMus in Music (specialising in composition and jazz guitar), I have a very broad musical education in a number of different musical pathways. I received jazz guitar tuition throughout my university education from accomplished tutors including Jamie Taylor and Ulrich Elbracht and have gone on to play jazz guitar professionally for a number of artists and groups as well as having weekly residencies at the Domino Club and Sela Bar. I have played jazz guitar alongside artists including John Surman and Jean Toussaint at prestigious events such as Montreux Jazz Festival.

As a professional working musician I have a wealth of experience of real world musical scenarios. I have played guitar at a very high professional level for both function and commercial bands as well as in original rock, pop, soul and funk bands. Through doing this I have played for large audiences at venues and festivals including Boomtown, The Hootananny (Brixton), The ICC (Birmingham) and many others. I have also had music I have written, produced and played guitar, bass and keys on featured on radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Rock Current and many local and regional stations.

I teach both electric and acoustic guitar to all ages and abilities and teach multiple genres specialising in: Blues, Jazz, Rock, Indie, Pop, Funk and Soul.

I have both a Masters Degree and an Undergraduate degree in music and have worked as a professional gigging musician since graduating.

A holistic approach ensures that my students are encouraged and inspired to explore all aspects of music making from the very beginning.; active listening, improvisation, composition, ear training and rhythmic skills are used together to help to develop the whole musician and improve instrumental abilities.

I have experience teaching a wide range of people from young beginners to older professionals, and aim to develop the confidence and skills of my students in a safe and inclusive environment. I am happy to work towards grade exams, personal musical goals, conservatoire auditions, original songs/compositions, identifying together which areas we want to develop and work on and providing the necessary tools and resources to further skills. Most of all, I provide a fun and enthusiastic learning environment to make lessons enjoyable for everyone!

Lessons are available at my home in Hunslet or via Skype/Zoom. Teaching at your location will be at a higher rate based on distance and travel time.

I am a Masters qualified professional musician who is currently a senior lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire, and also have 10 years experience teaching a variety of younger age groups through award wining organisations such as Symphony Hall Birmingham, Make The Paint Dance (Leeds) and NOFA.
