Hi Prospective Medical Students!

I'm Hugo, I'm a fourth-year medical student at the University of Leeds. I have been tutoring for 6 years and have been doing medical school admissions for the last 2 years. I have recently helped at the University of Leeds Medical Interviews for prospective applicants too, so I know how to make you stand out from the crowd!

My workshop can be a one-off session or a series of lessons to detail every part of the application process to medical schools, from choosing medical schools to UCAS forms, and from UCAT/BMAT to interview prep. My tutoring style is flexible depending on what the student prefers. I have a host of practice interview questions to help gain your confidence, as well as tips to show the medical school how great you are.

Outside of tutoring I have just received Honours for my Intercalated Masters in Medical Research, and presented my research at the British Cardiovascular Society and European Society of Cardiology conferences, receiving a prize for the "Best of the Best Clinical Abstracts" for the former. I also received 3 A*s for Biology, Maths and Chemistry for A-Level and have a Level 3 AQA Tutor/Befriender Qualification.

I'm a 4th year medical student at the University of Leeds, having just received a distinction in my Masters in Research and won 'Best of the Best' for Heart Failure Research at the British Cardiovascular Society Conference 2024. I have been tutoring for 6 years both online and in person, with all ages and complexity of tasks, and have helped run the University of Leeds Medical School Interviews. My specialties are in Maths, Sciences and university admissions.

Work/ Research Experience:
 Hugo is in the process of publishing a paper on the timing of comorbidities in relation to
heart failure as of 17/08/2024 as part of the Kearney group at the University of Leeds,
alongside his medical degree.

Roles & Responsibilities:
 I have tutored children in deprived areas with learning difficulties in a voluntary capacity
as part of an organisation called “Success4All” in Newcastle. This role entailed making sure
children were comfortable and settled before, during and after tutoring, and building a
rapport to ensure they learned as easily as possible.

Co-Curricular:
 I have been president of the University of Leeds-based student society ‘Teddy Bear
Hospital’, a volunteering society that goes to nearby schools and educates children about
healthcare to alleviate fears and inform about living healthily, including teaching on diet,
exercise and mental health for younger ages, and anatomy and surgery for older years. I
was a pioneer of a scheme now running every year called “MediTeddies”, where the society
builds and donates teddy bears that have colostomy bags, catheters, and central lines to
help educate children in paediatric surgical wards.
 I am an avid rugby, tennis and cricket player, and like to climb mountains when not at
placement.

I have taught as a volunteer at a charity service in Newcastle called Success4All, having achieved my AQA qualification "Tutor/Befriender", having taught for 2 years children in deprived areas.
I also taught tennis at an amateur level in Newcastle having earned my "Level 1 Coaching Assistant" qualification.
For the past 2 years I have been an online tutor for Learn2Shine, a non-profit organisation that tutors children that would otherwise not be able to receive tutoring, tutoring 5-6 times a week, from Y6 classes all the way to Y11 classes, for both maths and the three sciences.

- I work in marketing at one of the largest consumer goods companies (FMCG) in the world which employs> 100,000 people in around 70 countries. I am based in Geneva, where I manage the global marketing of a brand with more than 1 billion revenues.
- In my free time, I am a marketing assistant at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management, and I also coach Young Graduates through our Mentoring program.
- I practice triathlon and sailing.

With your course fee you can participate in any of our courses whenever you want. This way you can not only learn to act, but also taste our courses in debate and presentation techniques (our TV course), communication, singing, improvisation, 'physical acting', lie detection, hypnosis, directing, or writing! Of course, the following applies: the more you follow 1 particular course, the faster you progress.

With this you register yourself for one or more lessons, after which you can also follow the entire course.

For more than 10 years, Badass Intensive Acting Studios has provided a unique acting course for film and TV. The team behind the acting training therefore tries to give its students every opportunity to achieve their goals, whether it is to build more self-confidence, find a fun and social hobby, or actually act in front of the camera. This often requires stuck out in order to enter the unpredictable world of cinema, often with varying results.

In our renewed TV course you will not only learn all the tricks of the trade, if you actually want to stand in front of the camera to record videos, you will receive a free membership for a year at the Association of European Journalists (AEJ). You will also receive an official pass and access to both the press center in Brussels and the Dutch House, in the same European district.

Anyone can make a movie, but where do you start?
In these lessons I guide you in how you can translate the story you want to tell into images and sound. Depending on your needs, I can guide you in the development of a film plan, setting up your own shooting days, interviews and editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. You learn filmmaking mainly by doing, so experimenting is very important. It is up to you what kind of film you want to make, I guide you in your needs and capabilities. Whether you want to make an observational film, a film in which you are also present, with or without an interview. I am curious about your story!

With more than 10 years of experience as a tutor, mentor, study coach, thesis supervisor and teacher, I have seen and been able to guide many students and students through very different challenges. You can contact me for almost all writing assignments, for academic skills such as critical reading and effective studying, and I help many graduate students who are working on a thesis or another graduation assignment.

In addition, it is good to know that I help many people who struggle with fear of failure, perfectionism, ADD, autism, exam stress, procrastination, and, for example, dyslexia.

I am convinced that it is not 'IQ', or 'insight' or 'aptitude' or anything like that that is decisive for the ability to understand, complete, or master something. I believe that study strategy is the central factor. And that is typically something that you can develop based on a number of basic insights into the functioning of the human brain.
