Beginner Drawing Lessons: Learn the foundations of drawing and sketching

This is a class for someone of any age who is a beginner in art.

You will learn the foundations of drawing skills from material knowledge, techniques, paper types, collage, to color theory, form, lighting, perspective, a little art history, and more. The different lessons covered can be adapted to different ages.

Some things you will learn:
-how to hold a pencil and other tools
-gesture drawing
-shading
-line quality
-cross-hatching
-blind-contour drawing
-blending and smudging
-image composition

You will need different supplies for different lessons. The supplies can be adapted for different budgets.

To begin lessons you will need:
-drawing/sketching pencils- preferably at least 3 different hardnesses
-a few compressed charcoal sticks
-easel (can be small table easel or large standing one depending on size of paper pads)
-pad of sketch paper
-pad of drawing paper
-putty eraser
-blending stump (tortillon)

Please feel free to bring any other materials you are interested in drawing with or on!

I am an artist living and working in the Netherlands. In my current art practice, I focus on artistic research, writing, video, collaborative work and installation.

I enjoy teaching and sharing skills with people who are interested in art at any level. I love to teach foundation skills as well as skills in navigating applications for art programs and portfolio building since I know this can be challenging.

I am also open to teaching classes that focus more closely on a specific type of drawing, or sculpture. Please feel free to send me a message if you are interested in something in particular.

This class is an opportunity to begin to build an art portfolio, or to improve your portfolio and/or applications for art schools/universities.

My goal is to help students who are interested in improving artistic skills and/or to mentor students who are looking to get into an art program.

Depending on your needs, you'll learn a variety of techniques and skills from drawing basics, paintings, photography, color theory to portfolio building/strengthening, developing titles, captions and descriptions for your work, reviewing different applications for art universities or other opportunities, and more.

All levels of art experience are welcome!

This class is for those interested in getting started in printmaking from their home!
Gelatin printing is a very fun, easy, non-toxic method to create beautiful and unique images. Gelatin is the traditional material for this method, but can be vegan using agar instead (you can state your preference).

A plate of gelatin is created which becomes the surface to hold the ink. Different objects, fabrics, utensils, shapes can be used to create patterns and images in the print.

This class can be done in a set of 3 1 hour classes (preferably 3 days in a row), but the class timing can be adapted and can be extended depending on the desire..

In the first class you will learn how to make the gelatin plate and care for it, and start to learn about different techniques.

The second class you will begin to print. You will learn how to use the gelatin plate and ink and will try a few different techniques and surfaces to print on.

In the third class you will learn some more advanced techniques and applications for the gelatin printing.

After this you'll be an expert and can print at home whenever you want!

For children, this class will need to be done in person, or if doing an online class will need the help of an adult to make the gelatin plate.

That's when my journey towards progress and joy truly began.

ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE AND THE RABINE METHOD:

The Alexander Technique teaches people how to reduce general body tension and move in harmony with their body's mechanics, paying close attention to the spine and joints. Within just three months of weekly lessons, I noticed improvements in both my posture and my voice. I came to understand that the vocal system is intricately connected to the entire body, and singing could be a harmonious experience for both my mind and my body. This newfound joy inspired me to help others in the same way, leading me to become an Alexander Technique teacher.

Around the same time, I also discovered the Rabine Method, an exceptional vocal technique with a profound understanding of the phonatory system and a clear pedagogical approach that caters to individual student needs. It is centered on recognizing the unique learning process of each student and determining what they are ready to absorb.

Through my lessons, my goal is to transmit the joy and happiness that singing can bring. I hope my students will learn to focus on the learning process and be surprised by the results. My teaching approach doesn't solely prioritize outcomes; it values the joy of the journey to get there. I firmly believe that everyone can sing because we all possess the same vocal system. The key lies in training and developing awareness of our current abilities so that we can work with what we bring to each lesson.
