In this class, we will undertake a unique journey from its origins, with the establishment of Italian Silent Film and the so-called Golden Era, throughout the many developments and discoveries of the twentieth century, and all the way to what is Italian Cinema today. We will discuss and analyse films that played a remarkable role in shaping modern cinema: from the school of Neorealism to the auteur tradition of film directors such as Fellini, Antonioni, Visconti, Bertolucci, and many more. We will learn the language of cinema and discover a new way to unlock the meaning and artistry of filmmaking.

If you wish to brush up your Italian, resume a past series of lessons, or simply start from scratch learning Italian, this is the right lesson for you! I like to personalize each class/course according to the needs and goals of my students. My classes are focused on improving the student's communication skills. At beginner and lower intermediate levels, I prefer using a text book/ student book in the first part of the class. I usually use "Nuovissimo Progetto Italiano" and "Arrivederci" by Edilingua, or "Nuovo Espresso" and "Dieci" by Alma Publishing. For the second part of the lesson, I create engaging contents using original videos, press articles, extracts from blogs and social media, literary texts. El film documental expande las fronteras de interpretación de la realidad. Este es el punto de partida desde el cual nos reconocemos y nos situamos como documentalistas en relación a nuestro Mundo Histórico. Observar la realidad desde el objetivo de la cámara significa tomar conciencia de nuestro rol en la transformación, tanto narrativa como empírica, de esa realidad. Y en este proceso mediante el cual reconstruimos, transformamos y fabricamos la realidad dentro de un film documental, también debemos investigar, reflexionar y experimentar respecto a las formas posibles de construir un film que refleje fielmente nuestro punto de vista sobre esa realidad. Tradicionalmente, imaginar un film documental implicaba asociar una voz en off informativa con una serie de imágenes ilustrativas que enunciaban una verdad incuestionable, objetiva y neutral sobre el tema tratado. Hoy, somos conscientes que esa representación siempre es subjetiva y que en este proceso de creación, la exploración narrativa y estética nos permiten recrear en pantalla –teniendo a la realidad como materia prima y conociendo la diversidad de materiales, técnicas, soportes y recursos disponibles- esa imagen mental del mundo que es personal, auténtica y única.
