My name is Jim,

I am a working musician, recording artist, composer and performer based in London.

Apart from having years of experience with performing and recording, I've also taught drum lessons since I was 16 years old.
One of my favorite things about my job is witnessing my students getting hooked on the instrument and seeing that spark ignite! I'm very eager to let my students succeed in whatever they want to accomplish and find out the best approach to do so for each individual.

Über mich

Jim was born and raised in Arnhem, the Netherlands where first fell in love with drumming and percussion at the age of 7 after his father introduced him to latin percussion. After spending his first few years performing in local drum bands he then attended a local conservatoire from age 15 to 19, studying jazz and pop music on the drumset. After graduating he decided to pursue his musical career in London, where he graduated from the British & Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) with an Honors Degree in Popular Music Performance in 2019.
Jim has studied with inspiring teachers such as Adam Betts (Mr Goldie), JP Bouvet (Best International drummer contest winner 2016), Tim Smart (The book of Mormon, the Specials), James Trood (AlunaGeorge), Justin Brown (Massive Attack), Andrew Mckinney (James Taylor Quartet) and Hans Eijkenaar (The Voice).

Jim has been working as a session drummer in London for over 3 years, performing, touring and recording for multiple artists in prestigious recording studios such as Abbey Road Studios and Dean Street Studios and venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, the Pizza Express Live Jazz Venue, the Hard Rock Cafe and the 02 Academy Islington. In 2019 Jim started his own contemporary jazz project called Creature., where he releases and performs his own original music frequently throughout London.

Jim started teaching children and adults at the age of 16 and developed a true passion in guiding students through their musical journey and create love and respect for the instrument. He strives to find and ignite the musical spark in each individual student. With his personal background, backed-up by his extra degree in Music Pedagogy, Jim has developed an excellent set of knowledge and intuition to work with every type of person.
