I am an Italian-American actor, opera singer, and musical theatre performer who is also a teacher. I hold a Master's in Music Theatre from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, a Bachelor's in Music from Malone University, with 7 years of performing experience as a professional singer in musicals and operas. I have taught private singing lessons over the past 3 years in several different settings, both online and in person. I have also taught and coached Italian at music festivals in classroom settings, as well as in private.

Singing for me is many things.
From a practical standpoint it's a skill that I believe can be learned by anyone as long as they apply themselves through commitment and regular practice. From a technical standpoint, it’s a three-piece instrument comprised of breath support, healthy phonation, and resonant space. From an emotional standpoint, it’s a skill that should be shared with the world as a gift.
I believe that we who have been given this gift have the responsibility to share our knowledge with others. And that is why I teach.

In our Oud class, I will guide you through everything from basic to advanced techniques. We will cover playing for all levels, correct left-hand use, synchronizing with the right hand, handling the pick, tuning the Oud, and effectively using a tuner and metronome. In the remaining time, we will dive into reading musical notes, starting with basic Solfege and progressing to advanced and oriental Solfege, including dictation exercises. This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded musical journey

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to begin by studying musical notes and notation before delving into songs. While some students prefer to jump straight into playing songs, understanding the fundamentals of music notation accelerates progress in the long run. Dedication and hard work can yield significant progress within a year, enabling you to play simple tunes.

Jawa (1996) a Syrian oud player, singer and composer.
I was born in Aleppo, and I grew up in Damascus, Syria. I started playing music at the age of eleven. I chose the Oud as my instrument because my father used to play it everyday at home when I was young. Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years.

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run.
