I have been playing the piano for 9 years in a formal setting, and 3 years as a hobby. As a piano player, I prefer more mellow tunes and pieces as opposed to the likes of Liszt or Bartók. During the lessons we will pay attention to expression, technique, and most importantly: creativity. Music means more to me than notes and frequencies following each other, more than remembering which finger goes to which note, even more than an island of tranquility after a hard day’s work. Music speaks directly to one’s soul, as if peeking through the mighty mists of our existence from way up in the sky, reminding us of our folly and finiteness, as a piece sometimes is ripe with mistakes and eventually comes to an end. I truly believe playing music elevates the person, teaches them to handle stress and hardship better, to face their own shortcomings and improve them, how to become resilient and brave to show their weaknesses to others, and so on. Learning to play the piano is a wonderful and very diverse experience! Every beginner has to go through it in their own special way in order to realize one's personal aspirations. But sometimes, unfortunately, due to a lack of guidance and direction, the learning process may cause some difficulties followed by unexpected disappointment. I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons to students of all levels. As a pianist 12 years of teaching experience and over 21 years of playing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the course of learning piano. If the student is interested in a more serious approach, I can also guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams. For example, in the last year my students have achieved highest marks in the ABRSM exams as well as prizes in various competitions. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music." Prior to this, I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance/Music from University of Minnesota and TCU-Fort Worth, TX, USA. My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as soloist with orchestra (also as harpist), and receiving top prizes in several competitions.
