Latin lessons for beginners or less advanced: better understand the interest of the language and its history

Associate teacher of Modern Letters, doctor in medieval language and literature, offers help in learning the Latin and French language. Regarding Latin, versions and themes form the basis of the planned exercises. Regarding French, the course is based on the specific needs of students, from high school to university (method of dissertation, compound commentary, grammar exercises, spelling rules etc ...). This course is also intended for students wishing to prepare for teaching competitions.

I am passionate about languages and the study of translation (version / theme). I studied Latin and English throughout my schooling and during my studies in preparatory literary class. I also went to work in England for a two month stay, which allowed me to develop a "British" accent and to be more aware of the characteristics of this wonderful language and indispensable in the world today. I am currently teaching Latin and English to undergraduate students in Literature at the Sorbonne. I am very focused on the practice of the language, the exercises and the translation, which are a guarantee of efficiency and discipline.

I give French lessons to help with literature, writing, studying for exams I also give Latin lessons to help with conjugation, pronunciation, mythology, translation I can also give French lessons for non-French speakers

The courses are aimed at people of all ages who wish to start or consolidate skills in Italian, Latin, Ancient Greek and Philosophy. Lessons take place at home or online, depending on the schedule and needs of each. They include detailed monitoring of the student through the use of didactic cards. The courses are geared to meet the specific needs of the student while building on the strengths of his personality.

In this class i help students with Latin language, grammar and literature. It's a taugh language to study and translate but we'll try to make it in the most communicative way as possible using flash cards and other tools to study declinations and tenses.

Learning the Latin language presupposes a few solid bases of French grammar that we review of course if necessary, before installing Latin grammatical knowledge. I studied Latin for 6 years (high school and university) and read the works of (among others) : -Ovidius -Virgil -Horace -Civero -Catullus I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary. During my lessons I use : - Skype/Whatsapp/Messenger to connect with you, - Google Docs to keep notes, which you can check at any time and they are yours to keep, - sketch board me to make mind maps to show connections between ideas, etc. - books, PPP, word docs, diagrams, pics, etc. I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. I like explaining things in a variety of ways as well as make use of dictionaries, diagrams, etc. When it comes to students who want to sit an exam, I am very demanding. You will learn Latin the way it was meant to be learned - through conversation! Medieval scholars and contemporary language researchers alike advocate the use of dialogues and comprehensible input for language acquisition, and it most certainly works! As opposed to the "memorise grammar rules and then babble them in front of the class" approach that was demonstrated by the infamous "Romanēs eunt domus" scene from Monty Python's "The Life of Brian", you will learn to feel the grammar, so that you will be able to use the different cases of Latin without even thinking about it, just like a native speaker! For this class we will be using the following books, depending on the learner's level: Hans Øreberg's "Lingua Latīna per sē Illustrāta" "Corderiī Colloquia" Erasmus Rask's "Colloquia Familiaria" John C. Traupman Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency I will be the collocutor and I will answer the learner's questions and explain certain oddities solely in Latin (I will use a second language only when the situation calls for it) We will also engage in free-form conversations, discussions of the dialogues, of our life experiences etc so that the learner can apply what they learn to real-life situations and expand their vocabulary

Salvē, my name is Carlotta and I have 5 years of experience in tutoring. These now take place in Leuven, where I live in a room, as well as in Maldegem, where I come from. Since April 2022, I have been taking courses in Latin language acquisition at the Schola Latīna, an Italian private school that uses the comprehensible input (CI) method. This means that all classes are taught exclusively in the target language, allowing me to not only translate Latin, but also speak and write Latin. Since no Flemish school expects active language skills, I will of course not do this during the lessons ;) In practice the same problems always return: difficulties with translation, difficulties with memorization of sequences and vocabulary, lack of motivation or fun. When such a fantastic profession is experienced as difficult, it is only logical that motivation also drops. Whatever the problem, Latin itself is a perfectly feasible subject. I also tutored mathematics and noticed that students only have fun when they are no longer struggling, which is what we are working towards :) My goal is to be less needed as quickly as possible by learning and practicing strategies.
