My goal is to allow my students to achieve their goal whilst encouraging them to become more independent with their studies and go out and explore the possibilities. With both literature and languages, it is especially important that students go out and find a topic of interest as languages are tied in with the country's culture.

Should you be interested in Chinese as a beginner, don't worry, we can start from the very beginning. There is nothing wrong with learning a new language for fun.

I am a British born Chinese person, and I've had to grow up speaking Mandarin, Cantonese and English. It's been an interesting journey but has left with a huge amount of insight into the similarities and differences of both cultures.

I'm a Confucius Institute (the ONLY globally recognized official institution for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages) certified Mandarin teacher.

I'm also an official YCT (Youth Chinese Test)/ HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test)/ HSKK (Chinese Proficiency Spoken Test) test examiner.

In addition to giving private lessons, I also teach Chinese at international schools and lead Mandarin immersion Spielgruppe (playgroup) in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. My speciality is teaching children between the age of 2.5 and 12 in an immersive and interactive learning environment. By means of guided game-playing, painting, story-reading, drama activities, song-singing, dancing, and handcraft-making, kids achieve organic language acquisition while having a lot of fun.

I run private lessons, where all levels are welcome. But if you’re a total beginner then I offer basic classes to help you find the way to get into it.

I develop diverse methods of teaching for the students. For the around 5-8 years old kids, I would like to set certain games to play with them, thereby the kids can learn the new language during the interaction and communication. In this way, different media, like color pictures, puppets, or storybooks are essential to make the course very attractive. For the teenager or advanced students, a structuralized teaching content based on scenarios or textbook could help the students to develop their language capacity efficiently in different aspects – listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Besides, I would like to give a deeper perspective for the Chinese- not only learning the language from the textbooks, but also the knowledge of the language, the culture, and the literature.

I can customize the online course for you to learn Mandarin the way you want, e.g., speaking only focus or reading plus speaking, etc.

Each course lasts a maximum of 60-90 minutes and I can communicate with you either in English or a little in German; However, for your own comfort, we will need to speak in Mandarin during the course.

This course is aimed at learners with intermediate knowledge of Mandarin who wish to further develop their oral expression, writing and reading comprehension skills.

Together we will talk, read, and write about everyday and current topics (from studying, work, and travel to social media and Chinese culture). You will learn to conduct conversations more fluently, write clearly structured texts, and better understand authentic materials (articles, short essays, stories).

In class, we work with dialogues, role-playing, discussions, writing assignments with individual feedback, and reading strategies. In doing so, we discover Mandarin as the most widely spoken language in the world and as a language with a great future in both professional and everyday life.
