As a teacher who came from Ukraine and have already learnt the Dutch way of lessons, I combine in my voice lessons a strong goal motivation, clear and understandable explanation and "gezellige" time.

Hear all the time “you can’t sing;
Lost your voice, because of screaming;

Lost your voice due to illness;
Lost your voice or can't make it better due to mental blocks;

I use different explanation for different people and situations and work with the problem until it solved together with deep muscle relaxation and mental freedom.
With kids, we learn voice through games.

Employing the voice in a rhythmical sense is not a granted or obvious approach for singers and is sometimes overlooked by instrumentalists. However, a rhythmical foundation developed through the voice is a core element of strong musicianship for everyone in the music sector.

In these lessons, we will practice rhythm through the understanding and utilization of Konnakol (South Indian Carnatic rhythmical solfege) alongside other techniques and approach different ways to conceive of rhythm and integrate it into performance.

We will work on rhythmical freedom, phrasing, grouping and moving patterns, cross-rhythms, odd measures and different 'feels'. You will acquire new ideas, improve your timing, gain independence in your lines and obtain a set of tools to practice self-sufficiently.

"Rhythm through Voice" is designed for both singers and instrumentalists who want to enlarge their spectrum of techniques, and improve their rhythmical awareness.

[For instrumentalists: I will support you to translate and apply these techniques into your instrument]

The lessons will be custom made for each student.
I will work to adapt to your learning rhythm while keeping you challenged at the same time. You will receive regular feedback, advice, and guidance.

I offer online or face-to-face English lessons to non-native speakers. I work with the student to identify learning objectives and any areas of weakness and tailor the lesson accordingly. Areas covered during the lesson include, speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar accent reduction.
I currently live in Den Haag, The Netherlands. In addition to private coaching, I also work for an online ESL company delivering English lessons to children across a range of age groups. In addition, I also work as an ESL proofreader and IELTS private tutor here in The Hague. I hold a BA (Hons) degree and have a CELTA qualification. Prior to a career in ESL English teaching, I worked in the UK national press for the Times and Financial Times newspapers. It was there I developed my proofreading and communications skills.
In my spare time, I write articles for magazines and have had feature stories published in The Telegraph magazine, The Daily Mail and a number of health magazines. I have also written two language books. The first, 'I Already Speak Speak French!' is an illustrated book for children that covers the etymology of many English words to their French origin (attached is a sample of it for your interest!). It has been translated for the French market into, 'I Already Speak English!' The second book is called, 'Learn Business English FAST!' which draws on a teaching methodology used for effective, fast learning that I used whilst teaching English for the international company, GoFluent.

Half German living in Brussels and having studied in an International School, I am fluent in French, English and German.
I am currently doing my masters in Rotterdam at RSM and would like to offer French and/or English classes to students. I believe communicating with students in the language they would like to learn is key if they want to become confident in the language. Hence, I suggest doing skype classes or real life meetings at home or outdoors depending on your preferences and talking together will be very helpful for the student to improve in a particular language. I will also help with homework, grammar and the theoretical side of the language if desired.
I have been a counsellor in summer camps in Canada where I had to teach small children aged from 5-15 English. Some of them didn't even know a single word of English when they arrived. It was very hard but we managed to get to know each other, communicate well and believe me, their English improved a lot.

Piano is surely amongst the most interesting instrument in the world for a simple reason: compared to the other instruments that are usually limited to one voice, piano uses the ten fingers at the same time, giving hundreds of possibilities of different voicings and harmony.

I am a French student studying in the Hague. My passion has always been piano. I did 9 years in a French music academy where I finished the entire curriculum. I have been teaching piano to 4 students the two last years in London and I am willing to continue transmitting my passion now that I am in the Hague.

I teach piano to people of all age, without omitting to mention a little bit of music theory so that students get a clear understanding of the instrument they are playing. All this in a fun way! For example, understanding and analyzing how modern tubes and hit songs are made is a fun way to learn music without necessarily using a more conventional method. My students can play whatever music they want, from classical pieces, to jazz themes, all the way to modern tic-toc songs, I always let them play what they want. The most important is to enjoy, this is the really key to progress.

💬 Do you feel like your English pronunciation is holding you back?

It could be that people misunderstand you because of how you pronounce a sound or stress a word. Or it could be that people understand most of what you're saying, but they find it tiring to keep up. Or maybe your accent is stigmatised, making you feel judged before you even finish speaking.

These are the kinds of issues I help people work through in accent coaching. I’m Tom, a native English speaker from the UK with a master's degree in Linguistics and 12 years of teaching experience. I offer one-to-one English accent coaching personalised for your needs and goals. I will help you correctly produce the sounds of English so that you can immediately start speaking with more clarity, confidence, and ease – and without stigma or embarrassment.

⭐ English Pronunciation and Accent Coaching / Training / Reduction with a Native Teacher

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
I will show you how to train your ear and build stronger connections between your mind and your speech muscles. You’ll start with controlled practice to master new sounds, then move into spontaneous speech so that these skills become part of your everyday speaking habits.

Great pronunciation is more than vowels and consonants – it’s also about fluency and expression. You’ll practise the “four Ps” of effective speaking: pauses, pitch, prominence and pace. Together, these will help you speak with clarity, confidence and impact.

We will use specialist software called Praat so that you can visualise your speech, hear yourself back and make immediate changes to your pronunciation. It's highly effective and pretty fun too!

⭐ Select between Accent Modification and British English Accent Coaching.

🌍 Accent Modification identifies and targets the issues that cause misunderstandings in your own specific natural accent. This varies depending on your accent.

For Dutch speakers, this usually includes:
• the consonants th, p, t, k, s, sh, r, and v
• the vowels in "strut" and "foot"
• making intonation less flat and more meaningful
• relearning the connections between sound and spelling – famously fiendish in English!

This course is for clients who who need precise training in a limited time. These clients aspire to be more understandable to the people around them and do not need to adopt a fully native accent.

💂 British English Accent Coaching is a step-by-step course that teaches you to sound like a British native speaker. It teaches all of the sounds that makes British English sound unique. This includes:

• shifting many vowels towards a more forward placement in the mouth
• adopting British intonation patterns for questions, lists and speeches
• and of course the distinct British "t" sound (Brits do love their tea, after all).

This course is for clients who have a talent for picking up sounds, pride themselves on sounding like fluent native speakers and have the time to invest in long-term training

WHAT MAKES YOUR LESSONS STAND OUT?
First, they’re accessible.

Second, they’re personal. Too many pronunciation courses recycle the same generic materials for everyone. I design each lesson around your needs and issues so the time you spend actually moves you forward.

Finally, they’re research-based. A lot of pronunciation teaching still relies on outdated methods that don’t reflect what we know today about how languages are learned. I have a master's degree in Linguistics and use approaches grounded in modern research. These are proven to translate your effort into lasting progress.

WHO SIGNS UP FOR AN ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION COURSE?
Pronunciation training benefits professionals and enthusiasts from a variety of sectors. My clients include individuals from diverse backgrounds such as bankers, consultants, civil servants, creatives, therapists, lecturers, teachers, performers, estate agents, hosts, broadcasters, corporate trainers, small business owners and international executives.

Whether you're speaking English in everyday conversations, presentations, media, or whatever else you do, your voice is your choice.

ABOUT ME
My name’s Tom, and I’m an English teacher from southeast England, based in the Hague, Netherlands. I teach English learners how to communicate more clearly.

I have taught for various schools and agencies in the Netherlands and been frustrated by the lack of high-quality materials and expertise in the pronunciation teaching field. So in 2021 I set up my freelance teaching business to change the situation.

I have over 12 years of teaching experience, and I have a master's degree in Linguistics from Leiden University, specialising in methods for teaching English pronunciation. I am trained in speech analysis software, which is a highly effective (and fun!) tool that helps learners not only hear but also visualise their mistakes.

I speak Finnish (my mum's side is from Finland), Mandarin Chinese (I lived in Taiwan for six years) and French (because I love the sound of it). I also know smatterings of other languages like Dutch, Spanish and Japanese. I am an English language nerd and will happily talk your head off about why British people say "wa'er", what “muscles” have to do with mice, or why English spelling is so beautifully bizarre. Let's chat!

Let's chat!

Hi !

I am Héloïse, a french cellist and singer who lives in The Netherlands since two years. I finished to study at HKU Utrecht Conservatorium in june and am now a professional musician and, among other a cello teacher at the Lindenberg Center in Nijmegen.

After teaching music theory for two years in a french conservatory, I realised how much teaching is very important for me and helps me to grow as a musician. I like to adapt to the student and try to find a solution in any pedagogical situation.
I can teach all cello and singing levels, and all ages. I can also give some music theory lessons.
The lessons can be at my place in The hague or online but also at the student place, in english or french.

Thank you!
