Trauma Informed Singing: Help Heal from Trauma with the Power of the Voice

Do you want to learn how to sing within the realm of a healing modality?

My singing teaching is based in trauma informed musicianship. Through my teaching of people of all ages and experiences, and my own singing and recovery journey, I realised that musicianship and trauma recovery goes hand in hand. In collaboration with a doctor at Yale I wrote this paper which has been published in the Journal of Singing and NATS.

Within it I explain that the processes of vocal technique, breath, posture, and mindfulness, are powerful tools to facilitate the return to the body after a traumatic event,or a history of trauma. It creates an extra set of challenges for the student, however when worked through it can lead to extraordinary results. With the musical life enhancing the connection to the body, community, and something larger than ourselves, we can use music as a powerful tool for healing - and there is no more effective way to do that than by singing.

Please feel free to reach out to me for pricing, or if you have any further questions or are interested in scheduling a consultation.

About Me
Hello!

My name is Lauren, a singer from Scotland, living in London. I've been a performer for ten years and teaching for just as long.

I teach all genres, from opera to folk, and love students from the curiosity of a child to the bravery of a mature student. Teaching can be such a unique opportunity to not only grow skills and mastery, it can also enhance a pupil's enjoyment of life, self-confidence, and all aspects of their development as a child, young adult, or mature student. Seeing the aspects of music enrich other parts of a person's life is my joy. I am constantly inspired by the bravery of mature students trying something outside of their comfort zone, and young students starting a journey with the most profound of art forms.

I love preparing people for university and their arts supplement, as I know how much my life has been enriched by studying music, and sharing that joy is my life's purpose.

She is an encouraging teacher that know where is your strength and weakness. She can accurately work on the place you want to polished and coach you gradually. I developed my singing skill, passion and confidence on singing from her.

I've worked with Lauren for 18 months now, and I've loved every minute. She's really helped me get over some of my performance anxiety, and my vocal technique has improved really quickly. I feel comfortable trying new things in front of her because I she won't judge me if I mess up and will know how to help me do better next time. If you're looking for an encouraging, thoughtful, incredibly talented voice teacher, contact Lauren right now!

As an experienced and accomplished vocalist, Deelee can demonstrate practical voice and singing techniques that are informed through academia and incorporate the Estill method and the Linklater approach. Areas of focus involve releasing blocks of tension (bodywork/limber), breathing technique, breathwork, artistry, craft, and performance technique. Whether you want to sing for fun, be coached through the ABRSM graded singing exams, or brush up your understanding of music through theory lessons, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Singing Ethos:
My belief is that everyone can learn to sing when taught properly and holistically and can experience the joy of discovering the unique qualities of their individual voice. This is a joy which I share with my students and why I find teaching so rewarding. My experience is predominantly (but not exclusively) with children and I love to watch as their love for their voice grows.

What you can expect:
I believe it is important to teach with an emphasis on technique and vocal health, so from the first few lessons students learn about the body and the way the voice works. I address this through exercises and breathing techniques as well as songs appropriate to age and stage; (usually based around the appropriate ABRSM Grades). I strive to create a fun, nurturing environment where learning and confidence can be optimised.
I currently study with Sophie Grimmer, a highly respected and accomplished vocal teacher based in London who has performed at venues across Europe and London such as ENO. Therefore everything I teach my own students is informed by the world class tuition I am lucky enough to receive, (but of course adjusted so that it is age appropriate). This ensures that the tuition I give is always current and reflects the ever evolving industry standards for vocal tuition.

I look forward to hearing from you!
