I am a very enthusiastic and supportive teacher. I believe in being honest with my students, and that if they want to become a good drummer they will have to work hard. I want to draw their potential out, and to inspire them to love music and playing the drums.
A positive approach goes a long way, and I like to set my students interesting, realistic goals after each lesson. I want to help people to be creative and have fun learning a new instrument.

Expérience / Qualifications

I graduated in 2004 from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and since then I have taught in virtually every facet of Drums and Percussion, from private individual drum kit lessons, to being the percussion tutor for The National Children's' wind orchestra, to teaching Rock and Pop workshops to children in Schools across the country for the Lloyds TSB not for note campaign.
I am also an experienced professional Drummer who has performed both live on tour and in the recording studio with Vv Brown, The Irrepressibles, The Heritage Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Airto Moriera, Bloc Party, The Feeling, Ash, and Katrina and the Waves. I have recorded in many top recording studios, including Abbey Road and Maida Vale. I was also the first ever Percussionist to reach the last 8 of the Guildhall School of Music’s Gold Medal competition for Instrumentalists, performing excerpts of the Joseph Schwantner Percussion Concerto in the Barbican concert hall.
I have taught drums/percussion at The Hawthorns school for the last 14 years, which involves teaching and entering pupils for the Trinity Rock and Pop exams/rock school exams, with a high level of success. I have also previously entered pupils for ABRSM exams too. I am reliable and very organised when it comes to planning and delivering lessons, and I like the pupils that I teach to have fun but also to work hard, both in the lessons and also with regards to regular practice. Each lesson is tailored to the individual pupils needs and interests. I believe in using positive behaviour management strategies in lessons, so that both myself and the pupil are having the best possible experience.
I really enjoy teaching children to play the drum kit, and I want them to look forward to their lesson every week. I also encourage them to go to as many concerts and gigs as possible, so that they can start to form their own opinions about the different styles of music and drummers that are playing in the professional world.
Aside from teaching drum kit, I also play the entire family of tuned Percussion, from Vibraphone and Marimba, to Xylophone, Glock, and even tuned Crotales, from beginner level to concerto standard. I am also able to use and provide the latest technology, including the Roland SXDsx, RC505 loop station and Ableton Live for composition and creative exercises during the lessons. I find that it is very beneficial to record students in their lessons, for the purpose of analysis and their own sense of development.
I like to have a strong sense of communication with the pupils parents, via email, as I believe that this regular sense of contact makes the parents feel included in the process. I am passionate about passing on my enthusiasm for playing Drums and Percussion to the
next generation, and I really want to inspire young people to learn in a creative, positive and inspiring environment.

System of distance learning videos (which can be accompanied by scores), relating specific themes at the request of the pupil (can possibly replace lessons or be complementary to them)

Discovery course over several hours or even several sessions, in order to discover the world of drums (For more details on all these formats, contact me)

In all cases, I adapt to each student on:

- the form: I am flexible and can use alternatives to music theory for those who are resistant to it (for example, by making a video of the summary of what was seen, by re-explaining orally and by re-performing the exercises on the drums))

- the background: I always adapt to the wishes of the student if he knows what he wants

The most important thing for me is to make things seemingly complicated -> simple to understand and to execute, while making sure that I direct the student in the direction he wants to take, and that he takes fun to learn

The goal is to regularly cover pieces of music in order to put the things learned in a purely musical context.

Regardless of the course chosen, I accept all means of payment, as well as CESUs. The latter is very interesting for the employer (yourself) because it will allow him to benefit either from a tax reduction, or from a tax credit if it is not taxable (50% of the amount courses in the year deducted from taxes or credited in taxes the following year)

Hello,

I offer drums lessons in a warm place or at your home. Come and discover the battery differently. My mission is to help you develop your own identity on the instrument. I offer you a fun approach that focuses on the pleasure of playing.

Having followed training and courses throughout my life (conservatory, schools ...), I am passionate and dedicated to sharing all of my experience with you. I practice in many music groups and other structures (schools, associations ...).

With more than 20 years of experience in drums and more than 10 years in percussion, I teach many musical genres (jazz through Latin music, pop, hip hop, rock, hard, punk, metal ..) , the double pedal, notions of music theory, rhythmic reading. Possibility of taking percussion lessons (darbuka, bongos, African djembe, congas, jaw harp, dhol).

The programs are directly inspired by internationally recognized methods, thus being able to adapt to the needs, levels and requirements of each individual. I travel but I also receive in a room with equipment available (any age and level of practice are allowed, from initialization to professionals).

A different approach to music lessons:
My teaching is resolutely modern. Classes are a moment of musical and human sharing where error is used as a positive experience to move forward.

We work by oral transmission to complete the scores. We use onomatopoeia to quickly develop musical and felt play, rather than just reading and playing.

Techniques, phrase development, solo, accompaniment, odd rhythms and creation of your own sound.

We will cover traditional rhythms from Turkey, the Balkans, Egypt. I can teach darbuka and bendir from beginner to advanced level. Riq, indian tabla, konnakol, cajon, daf, indian tabla and percussion set ups can also be taught

I have been playing oriental percussion professionally since 2010 with many groups and touring all over the world and I've recorded albums for groups such as Light in Babylon.

The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements.

-> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student.
-> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor.

The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages.

=> Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more.

On demand or for advancs students:
- I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student.
- I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati.

Technique:
* Moeller technique (the 'whipping motion' - the Free stroke -Full/Half/Low stroke - accepting the rebound - its application etc.)
* Snare rudiments and their applications through reading systems
* Readings of scores and exercises for the snare drum
* Speed drills
* Military marches
* Control of the different subdivisions (quarter notes - eighth notes - triplets - sixteenth notes - quintuplets - sextuplets - triple eighth notes - nonolets etc.)
* Displacement of accents and polyrhythms
* On request, double pedal technique (application of the Moeller to the double pedal as well as everything listed above but with the feet)

* Bass drum reading and independance
* Snare drum reading and independance
* Applications of ghost notes
* The 16 sixteenth-notes ostinatos

I've been a drummer for almost 20 years now, and I've graduated from both Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music (classical percussion) and Mons Royal Conservatory of Music (pedagogy). I've been teaching percussion, the drums and music theory for a little more than 4 years now.
