Online drum kit lessons with experienced and versatile teacher

I graduated in 2004 from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and since then I have taught in virtually every facet of Drums and Percussion, from private individual drum kit lessons, to being the percussion tutor for The National Children's' wind orchestra, to teaching Rock and Pop workshops to children in Schools across the country for the Lloyds TSB note for note campaign.
I have taught drums/percussion all over the UK for the last 14 years, which involves teaching and entering pupils for the Trinity Rock and Pop exams/rock school exams, with a high level of success. I have also previously entered pupils for ABRSM exams too. I am reliable and very organised when it comes to planning and delivering lessons, and I like the pupils that I teach to have fun but also to work hard, both in the lessons and also with regards to regular practice. Each lesson is tailored to the individual pupils needs and interests, and I can also teach popular music and rock songs to students that do not wish to learn to read music or do Graded examinations. The emphasis is on having fun and progressing each week, with realistic goals tailored to the individual.
I am also able to use and provide the latest technology, including theRC505 loop station for composition and creative exercises during the lessons.

About Me

I am a very enthusiastic and supportive teacher. I believe in being honest with my students, and that if they want to become a good drummer they will have to work hard. I want to draw their potential out, and to inspire them to love music and playing the drums.
A positive approach goes a long way, and I like to set my students interesting, realistic goals after each lesson. I want to help people to be creative and have fun learning a new instrument.

Experience / Qualifications

I graduated in 2004 from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and since then I have taught in virtually every facet of Drums and Percussion, from private individual drum kit lessons, to being the percussion tutor for The National Children's' wind orchestra, to teaching Rock and Pop workshops to children in Schools across the country for the Lloyds TSB not for note campaign.
I am also an experienced professional Drummer who has performed both live on tour and in the recording studio with Vv Brown, The Irrepressibles, The Heritage Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Airto Moriera, Bloc Party, The Feeling, Ash, and Katrina and the Waves. I have recorded in many top recording studios, including Abbey Road and Maida Vale. I was also the first ever Percussionist to reach the last 8 of the Guildhall School of Music’s Gold Medal competition for Instrumentalists, performing excerpts of the Joseph Schwantner Percussion Concerto in the Barbican concert hall.
I have taught drums/percussion at The Hawthorns school for the last 14 years, which involves teaching and entering pupils for the Trinity Rock and Pop exams/rock school exams, with a high level of success. I have also previously entered pupils for ABRSM exams too. I am reliable and very organised when it comes to planning and delivering lessons, and I like the pupils that I teach to have fun but also to work hard, both in the lessons and also with regards to regular practice. Each lesson is tailored to the individual pupils needs and interests. I believe in using positive behaviour management strategies in lessons, so that both myself and the pupil are having the best possible experience.
I really enjoy teaching children to play the drum kit, and I want them to look forward to their lesson every week. I also encourage them to go to as many concerts and gigs as possible, so that they can start to form their own opinions about the different styles of music and drummers that are playing in the professional world.
Aside from teaching drum kit, I also play the entire family of tuned Percussion, from Vibraphone and Marimba, to Xylophone, Glock, and even tuned Crotales, from beginner level to concerto standard. I am also able to use and provide the latest technology, including the Roland SXDsx, RC505 loop station and Ableton Live for composition and creative exercises during the lessons. I find that it is very beneficial to record students in their lessons, for the purpose of analysis and their own sense of development.
I like to have a strong sense of communication with the pupils parents, via email, as I believe that this regular sense of contact makes the parents feel included in the process. I am passionate about passing on my enthusiasm for playing Drums and Percussion to the
next generation, and I really want to inspire young people to learn in a creative, positive and inspiring environment.

Drums & Rhythm Lessons - in a͓̽m͓̽s͓̽t͓̽e͓̽r͓̽d͓̽a͓̽m͓̽
My approach to teaching drums is focused on developing a strong understanding of rhythm in general and applying it on the drum set. I will customise my teaching approach to your needs, depending on the level of your playing and your musical desires. I'll give my best in each lesson to guide you step-by-step into becoming a better musician/drummer. You can learn about: - Polyrhythms - Groove - Technique - Macro & micro timing - Drum sounds for different genres/applications - Controlling dynamics between different limbs - Rhythm singing (konnakol) - Reading complex musical notations - Composing mathematically harmonious/inharmonious rhythms And much more... Starting from beginner, up to experienced drummers. I'm also giving rhythm lessons to non-drummers, just to anyone interested in getting to know more about the rhythmical concepts of South India - the most advanced rhythmic system on planet Earth!

Alec
Drum Teacher available for technical and motivational lessons online
If you want to know not just about drum techniques and playing, but also about its history and musicianship, you'll definitely have a unique experience with my lessons. I believe drumming is not just about playing and knowing your chops, but also about being able to listen to others in the band and make sure you "be" part of the music, without resorting to thrashing around and proving to others what kind of noise you can make. Hence the phrase "A band should be as good as its drummer". :) Drumming is undoubtedly a way of building up your self-confidence, in order to establish your identity. The drums are a great use to channel your emotions, so long as you don't have to pull a Keith Moon. ;) I can also add keyboards to the mix.... But why is it relevant for a drummer, you may ask? Well, although it may look the contrary from the outside, having an ear for other instruments and chords is absolutely essential, because both your drumming nd ability to improvise contributes to the atmosphere of each song. If you want to know more, do please get in touch. I look forward to rocking out with you! :)

Guitar, bass, drums, songwriting and recording lessons
So...... you'd like to learn guitar, bass, drums or maybe songwriting? Well...., you've already made a great start simply by making that decision. I will take you on that journey in a very relaxed and fun filled way that makes the whole process enjoyable. Just remember , most of the big stars of today and certainly of yesterday didn't necessarily have a formal training in music. This is not a barrier, the most important tools you have are your ears and your (and my!) enthusiasm and commitment. There never been a better time for musicians to write and record their own music and I can help you every step of the way on that path. So....let's start that journey today and get you writing and playing music. I look forward to meeting you.
