1-2-1 Music Production Tuition Online With Award Winning Drum & Bass And Techno Artist Commix

Learning something new can be a daunting idea. Especially with something like music. There is so much to learn! So much amazing music out there already. “How could I ever shine in such an established industry” The answer is simple, by being yourself. By concentrating on original ideas you can rewrite the rule books. This philosophy is at the heart of my tuition.

After many years as both a professional music producer and as a teacher I have developed a wide range of approaches to teaching the art of electronic music production. My lessons and courses are structured and will leave you with all the relevant skills you need to write music to a professional level. I am happy to teach complete beginners right through to highly experienced producers looking to fine-tune their skills.

My courses are 100% tailored to you, based on your skill level and learning style, which is one of the huge benefits of learning 1-2-1. So as a complete beginner we can focus your learning around your musical tastes and inspirations and for more advanced producers I can create a course that focuses specifically on areas you feel need improvement.
So, after our initial consultation, which will establish where you come from musically, what it is you are trying to achieve, what experience you already have, etc... I can go away and create a structured course that will challenge you and bring out your best music.
I have a scheduling system the means that you can find the most convenient time of day/week for your lessons. I will also introduce you to my school WhatsApp group where my students discuss techniques and upload their music for constructive feedback.
Lessons are conducted very conveniently via Zoom. Meaning we can freely share our screens and talk to one another in realtime. We also record each lesson which proves to be a huge benefit to my students as they can go back and go over challenging techniques in their own time.
Below are some examples of the kind of modules you can expect in the Introduction course:

Chosen DAW Overview (Ableton/Logic)
Pre-Producing Your Tracks
Beat Programming
Music Theory
Recording and Working with Audio
Synthesis and Sound Design
Sampling Techniques
Mixing

Arranging Your Track
Mixdown

If you are considering some tuition with me please check out the heartwarming reviews my previous students have left me, and please do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions at all.

About Me

As a producer, I have been releasing music commercially for around 18 years, mainly on the major Drum and Bass record labels such as Metalheadz and Hospital Records. I have also written 3 well-received albums and been involved in many collaborative projects.

Over the years I have worked in countless different studios and practiced a wide variety of different production techniques which has put me in a great position to teach.

As a teacher, I have a wealth of experience behind me. My first position after completing my teaching diploma was at London's leading music production collage Point Blank where I was their 'Introduction To Ableton Live' course tutor. I am also a regular tutor at various different studios in London.

I am as passionate about teaching and sharing my expertise as I am about producing music. I find it deeply rewarding to watch young producers develop their identity and their sound. Music is such a personal thing, so it's always so interesting and often really surprised to listen to how each student adapts the knowledge you have taught them.

My students can expect to walk away with much more than just textbook music production skills. I take great pride in nurturing young producers and helping them find their feet in the music industry. I will provide help and advice to them with everything from what equipment to invest into what record labels they should approach and will continue to mentor them long after their course is finished...

I prefer to play by ear, so i can help you develop your own musical ear, which unlocks the ability to improvise, jam with other musicians, and understand music to a deeper degree. Bring me a song you'd like to play, and we'll work through others to help build upon the techniques you'll need to be able to play freely and accuratley, the music you'd like to play.

Ableton Live - Getting your ideas down into a workable format to create a full working track! No prior knowledge needed!
I specialise in making music with the computer when there isn't a whole bunch of theory knowledge there. I can teach you to quickly and efficiently make that tune in your head into a reality, then turn that into a full track. If you have tried a few tutorials or courses and they didn't fit with you because of all the engineering jargon and theory based approach, this course is for you! I learnt to make music because I was hearing all these songs in my head but wasn't good enough at any instrument to materialise them. Ableton allowed me to hash through ideas, jam with them, then finally turn them into a full working track. I have also worked as a live and studio sound engineer so I do have the theoretical knowledge but can communicate in the language of learners from all different levels. I think there are a lot of people that just need to express what they have in there head and Ableton is by far the best program for that. It is very intuitive, "jammable" and so much fun! For me Ableton is my instrument but I also play the drums, piano and bass.

Professional Music-Therapy sessions (individual or group)
I am a professional violinist and professional music-therapist. Music has been found to have curative, therapeutic, and other medical values for human well-being and its physical, mental, and social effects have been documented throughout history. In addition to its potential of relieving e.g. physical pain and stress, music has been considered as a powerful resource for the social aspects of healthcare and well-being, which suggests that music can provide and cultivate several aspects of human well-being. I have worked with different disabilities but I have focused my music-therapy work on deafness, autism, elderly with dementia and ADHD. I offer music-therapy sessions (individual or group) to work with people in personalised sessions. Contact me if you want to know more about it.

Learn electroacoustic composition - sound creation and sound techniques
Who is this workshop for? For all curious about sound, all music, music in general, who wants to manufacture, build, examine ... (from 12 or 13 years). Should one know the music theory? Not necessarily. But familiarity with music of various styles can be a great help. DJ? Electro music? No ! We will not learn here to be a DJ or to compose "dance-music", "electro" music in the commonly understood sense, or even songs. Should I know the computer? It's better if that's the case, but learning can be done at the same time as music research. Is it necessary to have a computer? Yes ! A "workshop" rather than a class? The course takes the form of a practical workshop, listening sessions, critical works. By computer? Everything happens on computer once recorded sound elements of all kinds. Editing, transformation, mixing on software designed for this. No software required. The proposed route can be adapted to any multitrack sequencing software. The computer is only a tool, it is the composer who makes the music. Practically what do we do? The composer works "with the sounds" that he has most often recorded himself. He chooses them, assembles them, deforms them, mixes them according to his project, according to his his intuition, his ideas and desires, gradually builds a music. For those who want it and need it, exercises are proposed which allow to approach at the same time techniques of realization and specific musical proposals. Composition / Invention It is not a question of declaring oneself all composers, but of asserting that one can all ask questions of composers, with, at the same time, seriousness and fantasy. To confront the game of a free invention. What musical orientation? What style ? This is a "musical research" approach: to seek to invent a music beyond the traditional values - heights of note, regular pulsations, instrumental timbres - without being forbidden to do all that. A "music of sounds", in the widest possible sense, a "music of all sounds "as opposed to what we might call obviously too simplified" a music of notes ". This choice, which apparently seems to shake up the musical uses, is nevertheless part of a tradition of more than a century and rich of a repertoire too little known and which had various names: - Electroacoustic Music - Concrete music - Acousmatic music - Contemporary music Finally, we each have a precious tool to never forget: our ear, and a fascinating and rewarding work to drive, questioning oneself.
