Hello! I'm Alex, a 28 year-old PhD student in neuroscience/veterinary medicine currently in the US, though I did my master's in the Netherlands and spent around 5 years abroad. I have been teaching since high school, first piano for young children, then a teaching assistant in university and my PhD as well as a running coach for young girls, and recently have been tutoring students of all ages (mainly biology, neuroscience/psychology, thesis writing) via Apprentus and Varsity Tutors. I plan on being a veterinary clinician scientist eventually, where I will teach alongside my clinical work and research. I was born in Istanbul in 1983. I started teaching Turkish while studying Turkish Language and Literature at university. I worked in a language school and at universities. I have been teaching Turkish professionally for more than 16 years. I also taught Turkish for 5 years when I was a university student. In 2018, I obtained a TESOL certificate and also began teaching English.

I use the course book set prepared by Istanbul University. It follows a strategic approach to learning Turkish and includes all language skills—reading, grammar, writing, listening, watching, and speaking—from A1 to C2. All of these skills are essential for conversation.

I teach English for the A1 and A2 levels.

The workbook offers many exercises for homework or revision, and I support the book with my own authentic materials. I also use an interactive board that you can view anytime, and you can edit it as well. Repetition-based speaking practice plays an important role in my lessons.

I speak English well, and a bit of Italian, and I have also studied Persian and German grammar. I am interested in literature.
