I am fully qualified and have over 30 years experience working with a range of students from children to adults, and all abilities and standards. I am a very patient tutor and want to se my students enjoy the learning process. I have good reliable equipment for working with and secure wifi connection. I am a committed and patient tutor with a long and broad experience in the music business. I believe that teaching should be carefully tailored to the needs of each individual student.

Firstly, the lessons must be enjoyable for both the teacher and the student, in a working atmosphere where the student feels confident and relaxed. I am able to help students progress in any aspect of musical study whether be it preparation for grade exams, Orchestra or band auditions, inclusion in folk music sessions/ceilidhs, music college entry requirements, sight-reading, technique, improvisation, and aural skills, or simply playing for fun and personal satisfaction!

Learning to play any instrument is a fantastic thing, both rewarding and challenging in equal measure. I like to help students build their self-confidence, enthusiasm, and determination through positive nurturing and guidance.

Having worked for many music education establishments over the years, I have a strong foundation in classical based violin and viola teaching & performance (currently viola player and resident composer. I have also enjoyed a long career in folk fiddle / electric violin styles, (playing in contemporary folk bands) with festival and touring experience in the UK, Europe, and Scandinavia. In 2014 I gained a PhD in Electro-acoustic string composition and modern performance practices.
So whatever age or stage of musical development you may be, I welcome you... let's make music!

The guitar is undoubtedly one of the most popular instruments of the modern age. It is so versatile and used in many genres ranging from classical music to Death Metal and even Electronic Music.

I will teach you the basics of playing the guitar, and I'll spice it up later with my experience in composition and songwriting. We will learn by example through the famous songs that shaped our understanding of the guitar. Whether you prefer singer-songwriter-style songs, or thrash metal we'll get there together.

I will teach mainly using the guitar tablature format, we can do sheet music which is generally unneeded for anything besides classical, but I will need to refresh my music sheet reading skills as I haven't had to read any in the last 10 years.
