Violin, Viola, Music theory and composition lessons

One-to-one music lessons inspired by the teachings of Suzuki, Havas, Hoppenot, and Galway.

The lessons are adjusted according to age, level, and interests. The most important is that the student will learn in an enjoyable way for them.

It is only possible to take 45 min. lessons when the student receives more than one lesson a week -which is highly recommended for anyone that might want to become a professional musician. Lessons longer than an hour are also possible for anyone over 14 years old.

Other possibilities, a combination of instrumental/theory lessons and prices can be discussed.

Born in Central Asia and raised in Europe, I am an international flutist with classical, contemporary and electronic music training , and several master degrees from Conservatories in Belgium and the Netherlands. I travel through Europe and Russia to play classical and contemporary chamber music.
I see music as a way for people to connect with their own creativity and open themselves to their inner voice, their true self and their unique path.

I am looking forward to sharing with you the joy of learning and letting your inner artist sing, wherever you might be on your artistic path. If you need advice on contemporary pieces for your final jury, if you are looking for ways to refresh your repertoire or to give a new direction to your practice, I will be happy to help! I love to guide you through the classics of modern repertoire, to teach my tricks to creative interpretation or free improvisation.

I am a violinist from the United States is offering violin lessons to intermediate and advanced students in Bruxelles, Saint-Gilles.

I perform in Brussels as a violinist and I have performed classical, early music, and contemporary music and have studied at Stanford University and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. I teach students with a mix of ear training and more traditional approaches to reading music and learning music theory. High quality lessons for the serious learner and an opportunity to practice English!

I normally teach in English, but can also speak French, and Spanish.

I finished a Bachelor and a Master's degree in the Music Conservatory (The Hague) and then spent five years in the jazz scene in New York City, which gave me a very wide experience. Whether you are a beginner or preparing to enter a Music Conservatory, I can help you.

Classes description:

I have different study books we can use depending on the level, Wastall, Klose, Voxman, classic duets, jazz duets, Rubank, Horen, Lezen & Spelen, etc.... Plus I can write for you the songs you want to learn.If you have specific needs of topics to learn I will adapt the lesson and material to it. If what you want is to start or develop further in jazz music and/or improvisation, I’m definitely ready to help you!

Beginners:
Start finding the sound of the instrument, where the notes are within all those keys, begin with learning how to read music if you don’t read yet, and find easy and fun songs to play to enjoy the instrument already. I can introduce you to the understanding of basic harmony and theory concepts to help understand better inside music that you are playing.

Intermediate:
We can get to improve the technique of the instrument, reading skills, get more precision, speed, sound and timing and musical expression. Advance the understanding of harmony, its beauty and its possibilities. If you like to work on improvisation we can get to discover how to enjoy improvising with all the technical tools you already learned in the past and enhance that material according to your taste. If you want to start with playing jazz music I can introduce you to first steps and nice and technically comfortable songs to begin with.

Advanced:
At an advanced level it’s very important to understand the direction you want to take and what you especially want to improve. However I can help you perfectionate sound and timing, rhythm, vibrato, etc..., work on the accuracy of the reading and at the same time make it sound musical and human. On jazz music and/or improvisation, expand the vocabulary for improvising, the knowledge of harmony, what you can do with the material you know from different perspectives, increase precision and sense of direction when phrasing lines, learn more jazz standards, help on original compositions. And of course share all the better understanding of jazz music I learned during my years in New York City.

I focus on giving saxophone lessons to people with a solid or basic foundation who wants to improve or start improvising. This course is especially for those who feel stagnant in improving their music skills. I will actively analyse your areas for improvement and provide personal guidance and methods. I am very aware that each person thinks differently while improvising: personal exercises are given, depending on your needs.

Applied music theory lessons are a support of this class. I integrate chord theory into practical saxophone lessons, making a key connection between ear and theory.

I started playing classical saxophone, and I am currently a Jazz saxophone student at the conservatory of Brussels. Switching to Jazz made me analyse my own behaviour in improvising, which I find a crucial step in development.

When you are writing music, it is very important that you show your music to people. Someone with experience in composition, even better. It is sometimes difficult to take that step to show your pieces that you have worked hard on. But this is a very important step, it makes you more confident in your own piece. From then on, people can receive feedback and evolve further. In my lessons, I work mainly on structure and learning to compose. If necessary, I will also work on details, but first the idea and the form have to be right. Composing is an evolution and I myself am getting better every year.

To compose better, thorough music theory is also important. Just as you can express yourself better with more vocabulary, you can write better music and translate your idea into notes better with more music knowledge. The importance of this is often underestimated. For me, music theory (all the basic knowledge but especially harmony and counterpoint) go hand in hand.
