I am a professional bass trombonist, I have been teaching for over 5 years from beginners to college level. I am from the United States where I have taught private and large group lessons. I have a Bachelors in Music Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters from the Amsterdam Conservatorium. Through my experience I have found it crucial to start lessons with setting goals for each student; from simple short term goals to more advance long term goals. Just like any art that you wish to learn, practicing is a vital part to succeed, therefore starting with fundamentals and slowly advancing our techniques into repertoire is a very personal experience and we all learn at different rates. With one on one lessons each student has the convenience of setting personal goals, taking different routes to succeed, and overall enjoying the interaction between teacher and student.

I always like to begin lessons, normally lasting around 30 minutes. This will allow me to learn more about the student and their aspirations. Likewise the student will learn about my teaching methods and the structure of the lessons.

I'd be more than glad to share more information about my experience and educational background. I am fluent in English and Spanish.

Jeanette is a first-generation Mexican-American bass trombone and contrabass trombone player from San Antonio, TX. Her passion for music developed from her exposure to Bandas in Mexico and the happiness they brought to the community. Although she appreciates a wide variety of music, she takes pleasure in showcasing her cultural heritage on stage and contributing to the expansion of Latin music within our instrument's repertoire.

Jeanette's educational journey began at The Boston Conservatory under Angel Subero. She completed her Bachelor in Music Performance in 2016 at The University of Texas at Austin under the guidance of Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. In 2018, she obtained a Master's in Music Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where her primary mentor was Ben van Dijk. In 2021, she began pursuing a Doctorate in Musical Arts degree at Texas Christian University as a Graduate Assistant with Dr. David Begnoche.

Jeanette has garnered accolades in multiple international competitions, including the Steven Zellmer Trombone Competition, the S.E. Shires Solo competition at the Southeast Trombone Symposium, the American Trombone Workshop Solo and Quartet Competition, the Big XII Trombone Conference Competition, and the Texas State Trombone Symposium Competition, to name a few. She has performed at esteemed festivals such as the International Trombone Festival, Trombonanza, Brazilian Trombone Festival, Slide Factory, Trombontepec, and the Big XII Trombone Conference. Additionally, Jeanette has performed with prominent professional ensembles, including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Monarch Brass, Austin Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, and Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Jeanette is currently serving as Adjunct Professor of Trombone at Texas Christian University and Dallas College. She is an official artist for S.E. Shires Co. Her educational objective is to establish an environment that fosters a sense of inclusivity and validation for underrepresented groups. She aims to acknowledge and celebrate their differences while working towards broadening the musical repertoire to encompass greater diversity.

Outside of music, Jeanette devotes her time to her son, reading, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

I offer professional Brass instruments (Bariton, Tenorhorn, Euphonium, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba) lessons for children from the age of four, for teenagers and adults. Whether beginner or advanced, that doesn't matter to me. Every motivated student of trumpets is welcome with me. I see it as my job to promote the particular character of each student. Playing the trumpet is an art that is difficult to explain. To become a good Brass player, you need more than “just” to master your instrument. Practice is a basic requirement. Young Brass students, children in particular need the support and support of their parents in the learning process, but the joy in the practice lessons should not be left behind. The focus of my lessons is on conveying musical understanding, sound technology and music literature from classical to klezmer to jazz. Elements such as transpose, orchestral replacement and sight reading are also taken into account in the lessons. I accompany the students as they prepare for competitions and auditions. I am happy to support you in improving your stage presence. I offer one-on-one and two-on-one classes. I teach the pocket trumpet for children. Furthermore, cornet, B and C trumpet (American and German) as well the Bariton, Tenorhorn, Euphonium, Tuba and Trombone.

By means of the right balance between tension and relaxation, you will learn how to optimally express yourself musically on a trombone, the instrument that is very close to the human voice, based on a study schedule specially made for you. You get breathing exercises, relaxation exercises, in addition to exercises from, for example, the Coordination program for Trombone by Bart van Lier. May teaches you how to progress step by step with pleasure and discipline. She has many years of international experience as a teacher of Trombone Jazz and Caribbean Music at Conservatorium de Música de Puerto Rico, Conservatorio de Bellas Artes del Caribe, among others, and has performed in 28 countries. Higher Education in Music, specialty trombone, from the Murcia Higher Conservatory of Music with Professor Mario Calvo Ponce. I completed a Master in Musical Research at the University of Murcia, and a Master in Instrumental Trombone at the Hochschule für Musik Saar (Saarbrücken, Germany) with Professor Guilhem Kusnierek and assistant professors Mark Hampson, Simon Seidel and Michael Zühl.
