I am a professional musician and passionate teacher. I specialise in violin, viola & piano lessons for ABRSM exams. I have been teaching since 2012, and since 2016 I have also been teaching over Skype. My students have had many successful results for ABRSM exams, high school scholarship auditions and local music competitions. I have been teaching theory grades 1-5 for since 2018, with some students achieving distinction level results. I teach in my music studio at home, and online internationally with students in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, and the USA. Through my high level of teaching, you child will be taught how to pass the exams to the very best of their capability, with focus on the technique of the instrument, and how to perform. I have a Masters of Music from Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance (London), studying under Roger Chase, and a Masters in Fine Art from Gothenburg University (Sweden) with Øvyor Volle (Vertavo Quartet). I also studied in the USA at the Manhattan School of Music, New York, and Chicago College of Performing Arts. I work as a professional viola player across the UK and Scandinavia, with such orchestras as The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House (Stockholm), Bergen Philharmonic, Norwegian Radio, Gothenburg Symphony, Norrkoping Symphony, Jonkoping Sinfonietta, Aarhus Symphony, and English National Ballet Philharmonic. I am also a music arranger and transcriber.

These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard. My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student. Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you. A bit about me: Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'.
