Mathematics as anyone will tell you can be a very fickle subject to learn. I find the the best way to learn Mathematics is to try as many problems as possible and the understanding comes after you work at it. In my lessons I will give you problems relating to the topic you tell me you are having trouble with and ask you to solve them to the best of your ability then when you think you're done we'll go over the solutions and I will explain to the best of my ability the reasons we arrive at these solutions. The more you try the better you'll be at mathematics.
