Creative Illustration and the Fundamentals of Drawing

I'll be teaching you the subjects I can see you have most difficulty with - be it figure drawing, perspective, concept art or even going back to fundamentals as a reminder. I do both traditional and digital art, so I can also teach you how to move from one media to another without fear!

Before our first lesson

- Do you have time for homework?
- Do you prefer a more objective explanation as opposed to a more detailed one?
- Do you prefer learning all the theory first and then practicing later all at once, or to take it in small chunks?
- How experienced are you in art?
- Do you prefer a more casual class or one that challenges you every time?

Just a tiny PSA - if you're starting out from the very beginning with the fundamentals, please bear with me for a couple of classes because it will probably be super boring at first! I'll try to make it as entertaining as possible, but I'm (painfully) aware of how dull the more technical subjects can be. I PROMISE it will get better. Pinky promise.

I'm a very open person, so if anything happens, you can always send me a message explaining your situation and I'll do my very best to accommodate you. I do, however, have a couple of ground rules for our classes, which is based off of mutual respect.

Class supplies:
Not included in the lesson rate. However, I usually ask for very affordable (yet very good!) basic supplies that can be acquired very easily, and if you have some at home we can make use of those as well.

No-go subjects:
While chatting during class, let's please leave out politics and religion. I've got nothing against those topics, I just think that they stir trouble more often than not and I'd rather stay away from that possibility. I just want a nice environment where we can get along!

Environment distractions:
Pleaseeee please please have a setup ready in a more chill environment, without 3rd party distractions such as people talking to you (and/or beside you), loud TVs and/or music, super barky dogs etc.

Lesson requests:
Please do make sure to accept our lessons and/or send me some sort of confirmation at least a couple of hours beforehand, otherwise I'll assume that we won't have class that day.

Over 25 years! That's how long I've been playing around with art!
I'm 34 years old and I consider myself to be pretty easygoing, cheerful and nice to everyone. I like my classes to be really chill and casual, though if you're feeling adventurous I can give you a hell of a challenge if that's what you're looking for!

I'm also extremely honest and I will gladly let you know my opinion on things. I two supervisors - Kiwi and Pistachio, my dogs, who never leave my side - and they might even make an appearance on camera here and there to check out your work. They're really picky though, so you might wanna put up your best effort to please them!

As for the career technicalities: I got my diploma in Visual Arts in 2012, then immediately moved to the US in order to pursue my animation career. I spent 3 years there studying art and animation - Entertainment Design and Digital Production - in one of the best art/3D schools in the world, called Gnomon. I got my certificate in 2016, and I've worked as freelance illustrator for years. In 2018 I got hired by Treyarch to work as a character animator for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and, today, I work in the film, game and animation industry.

My art style is mostly cartoon-ghibli-manga-ish? But it tends to be very flexible and volatile, so sometimes I'll play around with more realistic drawings, and at times with with 2D animation.
Even though nowadays I prefer having illustration and drawing as a hobby, nothing stops me from teaching it to other people. There's honestly nothing more satisfying than seeing someone improve with my help.

I should also mention that I have severe ADHD and I deal with it literally on a daily basis. However, even though it does have its shortcomings, I don't consider it a fully bad thing! Not only does that mean that I work harder than a lot of people out there, but also that I know how to deal with people who are in the same position as I am. I might even be able to teach tricks on how to take advantage of it! So if you're in the same boat, hop in and let's figure out together how to steer this business!

A lot of people think they cannot draw. But before drawing, it is about "seeing". Actually if you can see, you can draw. Not only objects, but portraits, animals, whatever you want. By developing the aptitude of observing the reality using the right part of your brain, you learn how to draw what you really see instead of drawing what you think you already know about this reality.

I am a visual artist born in Barcelona, settled in Belgium since 2017. As an artist I have accumulated experience for the last 25 years. I am graduated with an Academic Bachelor in Fine Arts in the University of Barcelona and graduated as a Master in Visual Arts at Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerpen.

I am specialised in painting, drawing, experimental films, installations, language, sound and curating. In other words, I am a multidisciplinary artist.

I understand the artistic practice as a way to understand ourselves and the situations which surrounds us. In my classes I don't teach how to do Art, but as how to say something through your artistic work. With me you can work independently, with a coach who will challenge you with some assignments and giving feedback to your personal concerns.

In addition, you will learn how to work with several mediums, preparing your own material: paintings, canvases, and so on.

You will not only receive individual coaching but as encourage you to look other artists or take into account other references connected with your concerns.

I am a painter and illustrator who has a lot of fun capturing ideas on paper, I invite you to my classes (completely practical), where you can explore your creativity and sensitivity through plastic expression. We will develop observation and synthesis skills by drawing different elements of our environment. I will also teach you to recognize graphic elements (conceptual and material) through free experimentation, which will increase your visual perception.
What about the notions of composition, balance and concept? Come on, I'll teach you!

Are you willing to learn drawing or painting? Do you wish to improve what you already know?

I graduated from an art school where I learned all the important classical techniques of drawing, painting and sculpture. I would like to pass on the knowledge I have acquired through my studies and practice and give those who so wish the opportunity to go on a journey into the world of art and improve their language and technique.
The lessons are open to all levels.

The techniques covered range from drawing with pencil, charcoal and pastel chalk to all painting styles (watercolor, oil, acrylic, tempera). You have the opportunity to experiment on different types of paper (with different weights and colors) and canvases.

The topics change from lesson to lesson and can range from the human body to the landscape to the wildlife, depending on your preferences and desires.

Particular attention is paid to the method so that the finished work is clean, pleasant and as expressive as possible.

Nice to meet you, I'm Daniel. I'm a (private) art teacher, I'm also a freelance artist and have been working as one for about 7 years. I'm looking for students in Utrecht, I have a teaching space available in my apartment (I can share my address when you contact me), but am also able to travel to your desired space within the city.
I can also teach via webcam, but I do recommend my in-person classes, seeing as they're more immersive and educational.

I unfortunately do not speak Dutch (yet), but am confident we can overcome any potential language barrier we come across.

I have the most experience in teaching teenagers and preteens, so I think we would definitely be a good match if you're a parent or guardian looking for a teacher for your child.

Would you like to be able to illustrate the worlds and stories you imagine?

Do you want to learn how to create characters for a video game, animation, children's story, comic or in any format? Or would you like to be able to draw your favorite characters?

If you have those concerns, I would love to help you.

I like to focus the classes in such a way that the current drawing level of the student is not what is important. The room for improvement will always evolve. I like to take my classes towards character design, towards general things like the psychology of color and shapes, since they are assimilable and highly useful concepts, independent of the level of drawing. For this reason, my classes are aimed at all ages and drawing levels.

I also try to focus them on the preferences and tastes of each student, showing them that everything they like, they like for a reason, that nothing is left to chance and that they can also understand how to make their drawings reflect what they want to convey. Even to create your portfolios or visual information for your own project or story.

I give private classes with students from different parts of the world, so many of my classes I have been able to do in both English and French.

I studied 2D animation in France, and thanks to this training, my work has been nourished by dynamism, storytelling, expressiveness, typical of this medium, as well as the sensitivity for color and shapes that I usually use to infuse a unique style both to my original designs as well as my fanarts.

Drawing is a fun activity. It's very interesting to see how the lines take shape as you draw them, and it's also satisfying when you take the finished drawing home.

This workshop is aimed at people of all ages, from children to adults who love to draw and want to learn tricks and tips for drawing.

You can bring anything you like and would like to draw, whether it's a manga, a photograph, or even the actual object if you can bring it with you. If you don't have anything in particular, we'll look at the materials I've prepared together and I'll give you tips on how to draw!

You can draw on paper with a pencil or marker, or if you have a tablet, that's fine too.

Este seminario de 6 clases propone un recorrido profundo por la vida y la obra de Andrei Tarkovski, uno de los directores más grandes e influyentes de la historia del cine.

Clase 1: Biografía y formación
Se abordará su infancia, su crianza en un entorno católico dentro de la Unión Soviética, el contexto social y cultural de la época, su formación como estudiante de cine y sus primeras películas. El objetivo es comprender de dónde nace su mirada artística y espiritual.

Clases 2 a 6: Filmografía y lenguaje cinematográfico
Se realizará un análisis completo de su obra, siguiendo un recorrido cronológico por sus películas para identificar temas, obsesiones y transformaciones a lo largo del tiempo.
Trabajaremos su estilo y lenguaje cinematográfico:
– el tiempo y el ritmo
– las atmósferas
– la memoria
– los símbolos
– lo espiritual
– la construcción de sentido a través de la imagen

También se abordarán dos ejes fundamentales:
– la censura del Estado y su relación conflictiva con las instituciones soviéticas
– la presencia del cristianismo y la espiritualidad en su cine

El seminario está orientado al análisis narrativo, estético y simbólico, no técnico, y busca desarrollar una mirada más profunda y reflexiva sobre el cine de autor.

Está dirigido tanto a personas sin conocimientos previos como a estudiantes, realizadores y amantes del cine que quieran comprender mejor la obra de Tarkovski y su importancia en la historia del cine.
