I have 6 years of experience teaching both cello and music theory, both as separate subjects and as a combined learning program. In this time I have worked with many different students with different skill levels and ages.
My lessons adapt to the students goals, skills, previous knowledge and learning styles. On our first lesson we will determine what the starting point is, what we ant to achieve in the short and long term, and we will make a plan to get there that best suits you.

I hold two bachelor degrees in cello performance, one from Escuela Superior de Música de Alto Rendimiento (Spain), and one from Koninklijk Conservatorium Gent (Belgium). I also hold a Professional Degree in Music from Conservatorio Profesional de Música Jesús Guridi. I am currently working on my Master Degree in Music Performance.

I have been a cellist for years and gained a lot of experience over the years. I am a replacement for the Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium and the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders. I am also a regular cellist in various projectors and I play in St.Grandson, a band that won the new generation last year.

Foundation
First we start with the music theory, melody and chords. These are the essential building blocks for making music.

Style
Next we apply stylistic tools to bring the music to life. This could include jazz chords, blues riffs, walking bass lines, and more.

Skills

We learn the skills (soloing, ear training, accompaniment, improvisation, lead sheets, analysis...)

Following this approach, you will finally understand the music that you are playing, and you will be able to apply the techniques to hundreds of other songs.

CVT METHOD?

Singing is not that difficult and everybody can learn to sing. CVT divideds the singing techniques into four main subjects. By combining elements of these four subjects, you can produce precisely the sounds you want. You will also be able to pinpoint your specific problems and mistakes, and you can focus on which techniques you wish to work on.

The four main subjects are:

The three overall principles – to ensure healthy sound production
The four vocal modes – to choose the ‘gear’ you want to sing in.
Sound colours – to make the sound lighter or darker.
Effects – to achieve specific sound effects.

I studied at the conservatories of Antwerp and Ghent and obtained my master's degree as a performing musician and my diploma in specific teacher training. In addition to experience as a performing musician, I am also active as a teacher of solfège and cello. I have experience as a teacher with children and adults.

My name is Miriam, I am a graduate in Master of Classical Music at KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent.
I've been teaching cello to children, teenagers and adults for 10 years, so I've acquired the necessary experience to be able to adapt to the different and personal needs and objectives of each student. My teaching methodology focuses on creating a friendly and relaxed environment (which does not mean undemanding!) in which students feel confident to express their own ideas and worries. In my lessons I focus on technical and postural questions, but we also reflect together on the music, as I like my students to develop their own musical ideas and not just imitate the teacher.

Clarinet lessons at all levels: from absolute beginners to advanced players.

Today - after completing an extensive selection procedure - Laurens is professionally active as a clarinetist with the Royal Marine Band, one of the prestigious orchestras of the Belgian army.

In addition to his education at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, Laurens has had the opportunity to learn several times in a number of masterclasses by, among others, Arno Piters (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Davide Lattuada (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Bart de Karter (New Amsterdam Clarinet Quartet), Pascal Moragues (Orchester de Paris), Ricardo Mataredonna (The La Monnaie Theatre), David Van Maele (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides), Bart Watté (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides) etc.

Both as a freelancer and an active member, Laurens has played in various orchestras, such as the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force, Frascati Symphonic, the Euregio Youth Orchestra, the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra, La Chapelle Sauvage, Flanders Young Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Harmony Orchestra...

Since 2021, Laurens has been a member of the Meraki Wind Quintet, with which he has already successfully participated in a number of competitions, including the IMC International Music Competition 2023 (1er Prix à l'unanimité), the Euterpe Music Awards 2022 (gold prize), the Classic Pure Vienna International Music Competition 2022 (special mention), and the Fanny Mendelssohn International Online Competition 2022/23 (second prize).

In addition, Laurens is also active as a conductor, both in a symphonic and harmonic orchestra. He takes conducting lessons with Kristiina Posska (chief conductor of Flanders Symphony Orchestra), Bart Picqueur (composer and conductor) and Dimitri Bracke (conductor) and is active as a permanent conductor with the Fantasietjes in the Muziekvereniging Bellegem and freelance with various other associations.
