Private Lessons in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering

I am a university researcher and instructor with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. I am able to provide one-on-one guidance for a range of topics in mathematics (algebra, geometry, calculus, discrete math, functions and modeling), natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology), and engineering (fluid dynamics, applied programming, signal analysis, optimization).

My typical teaching strategy follows three steps:
    1) developing an understanding of the subject theory
    2) introducing real-world applications of the theory
    3) repeating exercises related fundamental concepts and applications

I am also able to help students prepare for a range of (pre) university exams.

    About Me

I am an academic researcher and university-level instructor (native English, American) with experience in teaching, instruction, exam prep, editing/proofreading and text correction for all ages and in a variety of contexts. I hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and have (co-)authored more than 15 scientific publications.

After growing up in Seattle and then heading to Michigan for my graduate studies, I unexpectedly had an opportunity to carry out the bulk of my Ph.D. work in Switzerland, during which I was able to learn French (B1-2), and after which I accepted a position as an independent researcher at KU Leuven. I have extensive knowledge of English grammar and literature, as well as experience in scientific research with a focus on medical diagnostics, biophysics, and signal processing. I am currently instructing bachelor-level practical exercise sessions in Dutch (B2) and am comfortable providing guidance in Dutch related to English.

I have no problem meeting anywhere around Brussels or Leuven, or in the adjacent regions. I am also willing to correct, edit, proofread, and ghostwrite text with weekly and/or monthly rates. My transportation costs are included.

    Education

B.Sc. in Bioengineering with Minors in Global Health and Mathematics: Univ. of Washington
M.Sc.E. in Biomedical Engineering: Univ. of Michigan
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering: Univ. of Michigan

    Experience / Qualifications

Primary school classroom teaching experience (50-100 hours, 8-9 year old students)
Bachelors-level course instruction (300+ hours, 18-22 year old students)
Graduate-level course instruction (150+ hours, 22-26 year old students)
One-on-one tutoring experience (50+ hours, 12 year old & 17 year old students)
Communicating properly in English is no longer an option but an expectation in academic and professional life. I am a native English speaker (American) with a Ph.D. and prior teaching experience in both individual and group scenarios, and my goal with this course is to help others improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities in the English language. Approaching the language with native experience, I can provide guidance related to both educational and business English and can cover broad usage including comprehension, conversation, grammar, and situational skills. I am also able to help improve general language skills (e.g. accent training) and can provide extensive help and instruction regarding SAT, GRE, MCAT, EPSO, IELTS, and TOEFL exams.

    Arina
(Private) Mathematics tutoring for secondary school students
    - As for the lessons. The lessons are about mathematics of secondary education. More specifically, I will assist in the theoretical processing of mathematics as its application (the exercises). In addition, I will provide additional study material (aids, schedules, ...) if necessary. - Way of handling. I would like to have an overview in advance of the study material, the tests or tasks in which certain problems are visible, .... This way I can prepare the lessons in advance and focus on the problem. In addition, I can estimate / determine his / her level in this way. I try, in a simple way and for the student in an understandable way, to explain the course in a different way so that this is clear to the student. Afterwards I like to enjoy the results. - Why am I doing this? Math is a passion of mine and for me there is nothing more fun than sharing my passion. Unfortunately, my love for mathematics is not part of my studies and that is why I like to do this as a hobby and as an extra income. Of course I work professionally. - Experiences? I love nothing more than tutoring my fellow students about the subject matter. This is appreciated by them. Of course I also have experience in tutoring mathematics of both primary and secondary education. - Who am I? My name is Arina and I study law. I am 25 years old, live and live in a room in Leuven. In secondary school itself, I had a traumatic experience in the first and second year of secondary school for the subject of mathematics. I found it very interesting but I just couldn't understand it. During these years I had the same teacher who did not teach me the material in a way that was, for me, correct. After receiving tutoring (mandatory by my parents), my interest in mathematics increased so much that I started studying economics mathematics in the following years. My love for mathematics just doesn't seem to go away...

Mathematics and Science for Secondary Education
Mathematics and science subjects can weigh heavily on your study career during secondary education. It is therefore important to perform well on this. This can be a challenge for many students, especially in the third grade. In my lesson I try to explain the subject matter to students based on their own course, my old course and extra exercises. The ultimate goal is that the students gain a better understanding of their course.

Mathematics, French, Dutch, Scientific subjects, Economics and guidance during studies
I studied Latin Sciences at the Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels and I am currently in my 1st Master in Business Economics at the KUL. Mathematics, science subjects, and languages can be challenging. I therefore offer my services to provide additional support to students in secondary school. Together with my students, I go over the course material, do sufficient exercises and discuss with them what the right study approach is. My goal is for them to master their learning material well and ultimately achieve a good end result. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions!

    Jayakrishnan
Math, Physics, Science, Computer Science, Electronics
I believe that knowledge is built from basics and deep understanding of concepts with practicality. Any concept learnt with practical application is more important than theoretical knowledge and worth in the long term. With this in mind you can expect me to deliver information in a simple and effective manner for better understanding.

    Flavian
Mathematics Tutoring - High school / University level
As a student in a Master's degree in Mathematics, I offer help in the deep understanding of various subjects. I believe that intuition is the most important tool in mathematics and its development deserves our full attention. Whether it's in the math fundamentals we face in high school or the abstract tools we encounter in university, it's always possible to find that magical moment where everything seems so obvious. It is the so called "stupid questions" that are the most important.
