About Me

My name is Mak, Chilean photographer, visual artist, filmmaker and photography teacher. I’ve worked for the past 12 years in the area of documentary photography, capturing artists, street scenery and personal projects, where the portrait and surrounding space play a fundamental role and capture the soul of the subject. As a teacher for 7 years, I taught documentary photography and developed portrait phototherapy in 5 children jail centers of `Sename ́ (state institution concerning the protection of minors) and 3 colleges in the vulnerable sector in Santiago to Chile.
I’m also a visual and drawing artist for 4 years now. For my plastic art, I like to investigate in recycle art and re-use words as a reflection for the ambient. My style fluctuates between pop art, expressionist and graphic influences using pallets of pastel, fluor, black and white colors. I like to works with different materials, such as paper, cloth, murals, cups, stones, and recycled items.
Classes for children between 3 and 12 years, for the development of their artistic, cognitive and motor skills. Once a week, with different artistic activities with recycled utensils, you dance painting and create artistic products for each week.
One of my specializations is food photography. Creating atmosphere, integrating color and styling in the composition of the image. Do you own a restaurant? A coffee? Or you love food? You want to take good pictures of your new dishes? This is a super opportunity!

Adobe Photoshop for everyone and for everything - Amsterdam
If I was stranded on a desert island I would take only Adobe Photoshop with me. Hi, I'm an artist living in Amsterdam who is a big believer in Photoshop and working with this tool everyday. I will teach you hand by hand (layer by layer) to do anything in Photoshop. Web Design, Graphic Design, App design, Logos (Corporate Identity), Photography, Art collage - name it. The program is cropped for you. We can start from really beginning or jump into the ocean. If you want help with a project or a learn specific skill just let me know. We can meet in my studio in Amsterdam Center, in my house Amsterdam Oost, in a cafe or in your location. Bonus: You will get familiar with Photoshop so badly that you will start making Photoshop jokes. Need help with Photoshop working on a project? Im here to help. Need a practical advice or help to do something specific? You know where to find me.

Photography - Do you want to learn to take beautiful photos easily? Then send a message!
My teaching method depends on what kind of pictures you would like to take. For example, if you want to learn nature or street photography, we can meet in the forest or in the city. If you want to learn how to get the best out of your (new) camera, I can also teach you the basics of photography, such as framing, white balance, etc.

Photography - Understand your camera and use it!
Have you always wanted to take photos, you have probably even bought a reflex camera, but it is now gathering dust in a cupboard? Do you want to get started, but you don't know where to start? Then this course is for you! In this course, we will cover the basics of photography (ISO, shutter speed, aperture,...). The goal is to help you understand the technical basics, without it being too complicated either. More than anything, what matters to me is that you can take control of your camera, and then be able to really use it in the moments that matter to you. Depending on your needs, we can approach how to photograph a landscape, a person, etc., so that it is as close as possible to the expected result. The goal is to develop your eye over time, because in my opinion that is the best way to learn: by doing. Photographer for over 10 years, holder of a CFC, and self-employed since 2020, I am active in the field of weddings, portraits, landscape photography and concerts. In other words, reporting in all its forms. Capturing what is happening in front of me and transcribing it into photos, with my eye and my sensitivity, is a passion that has driven me for years, and it is what I am keen to pass on to you.

Martin
Professional documentary photographer gives his advice on how to develop his approach and his photographic work
ABOUT THE TEACHER Martin is a professional photographer and photojournalist. Through his numerous personal projects, he is particularly interested in youth and geo-environmental issues. The 21st century and the upheavals that accompany it particularly fascinate him. During 2017 and 2018, he carried out numerous projects in South-East Asia where he was able to work for seven months. The most important of these is entitled The Faces of the Mekong. Using the mythical Mekong River and its resources as a common thread, it provides a broad perspective on the geo-environmental issues related to development in the Indochinese peninsula (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand). He has also focused on Vietnamese and Laotian youth through the prism of street sports and urban culture. In 2019, he travelled to Hong Kong to cover, among other things, the uprising of the pro-democracy movement, which earned him a nomination for the Bayeux Prize for War Correspondents in the Young Reporter category. In parallel to his projects, Martin also responds to commissions from the press, NGOs and private companies. His work is regularly published in the French and international press (Le Monde, Libération, The Washington Post, Le Figaro, Vice, Reporterre, Mr Mondialisation, Fisheye Magazine). They have been awarded several times, including the François Chalais Young Reporter of the Year Award 2015 in the photo category. He was a finalist for the Grand Prix Paris Match du Photoreporter étudiant and a winner of the Young Talents Photo Prize by fotofever. These projects also lead to exhibitions and conferences. PRACTICAL OUTING For a more concrete and playful practice of photography, this outing will allow us to work on different aspects of photography: - Mastering your camera, whatever it is. If you practice photography with your smartphone, you are also welcome. - Work on framing and composition. - Using light as raw material - Learning about street photography. - Post-production of photographs on Lightroom (only on request). IN-DEPTH TRAINING The training consists in accompanying you in the development of your photographic projects and in the setting up of your activity of photographer. This training concerns photography as I practice it. That is to say, photography that speaks of the world in which we live and which, at the same time, is creative with a real aesthetic research. In other words, we are halfway between photo reportage, documentary photography and artistic photography. This programme is tailored to each student and is divided into two main parts 1) The creative process : - Developing personal photographic writing - Preparing and carrying out projects - Assimilate the photographic narrative and the codes of photoreportage - Knowing how to be a versatile photographer to diversify your sources of income - Responding to a photographic commission 2) An activity that is a source of income in the long term: - Communicate well with the right tools - Finding funding for your projects - Sell your projects and photographs through various channels - Mastering productivity techniques to be efficient while remaining independent - Find clients and trigger concrete orders - Multiply your sources of income With this training, I will be at your side to accompany you in the different stages of this process. Together we will set your concrete short and long term goals and we will work day by day on the best method to reach them. In concrete terms, the training consists of working meetings by video conference or in person. This training does not require a particular age or level of education. Nevertheless, certain prerequisites are necessary such as a good general culture (to understand the world in which we live), a certain maturity as well as a basic technical mastery of photography.

I have a comprehensive understanding of contemporary photographic practices and of theoretical approaches to the subject, and also have a strong technical grounding both in traditional and in digital processes. I am experienced in all stages of the development of photographic projects, from early conceptualisation through to printing and exhibiting.I have exhibited nationally and internationally in both solo and group shows. My selection for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2008 Exhibition in Liverpool and London is one highlight among them. As an artist and teacher I insist on the highest professional standards and I emphasise clear and direct communication and honesty throughout. I have been teaching photography since 2009. I offer private lessons to photography students and any other individuals who would be interested in 'how to'/technical skills sessions or in developing a photographic body of work and would be in need for some expert advice. Just get in touch with your request as your photography needs might vary from something small to something big and I will be happy to answer and help you.
