As a certified teacher and native Italian speaker, I would like to help you out to learn my language in a context that is practical and relevant for you. It doesn't matter if you want to learn it for business, holidays or to understand Italian songs' lyrics or recipes - everything that interests you can be a starting point to learn to speak and write in Italian... And have fun while doing that! You can expect the lessons to be focused on conversation and interaction skills, but if you want to improve your grammar we can dive deeper into that too.
I have experience in teaching English, German and Italian to children and teenagers from all over the world, but adults are very welcome too.
The lessons will be taught from English or German, a little bit from Dutch... And Italian of course!
I can't wait to meet you, a presto!

As a certified teacher, I would like to help you out to learn German in a context that is practical and relevant for you. It doesn't matter if you want to learn it for business, holidays or just for fun - everything that interests you can be a starting point to learn to speak and write in German! Since German is spoken as official language in my region of origin, it is my second language. I had to learn it just like you. For this reason, I think that my tips and tricks will help you to get comfortable with the language, its construction and grammatical rules. Ciao! I have been teaching Italian for the past twelve years. I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words.

I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules.

I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...”

When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling and we will go on “talking walks” because when you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words.

I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

Italian Cuisine Classes – Traditional, Regional, Handmade Pastas, Modern Italian Cooking, and Market-to-the-Table

Explore the rich and diverse world of Italian cuisine through immersive and hands-on cooking classes, where tradition meets innovation. I offer a variety of classes that dive deep into Italy's gastronomic heritage, from classic regional dishes to modern interpretations of Italian cooking. Whether you're a novice or an experienced cook, these courses provide the perfect opportunity to learn authentic recipes, techniques, and the history behind each dish.

Traditional Italian Cuisine focuses on time-honored recipes passed down through generations, teaching you how to create iconic Italian dishes with a focus on fresh, quality ingredients. In the Regional Cuisine course, we explore the distinctive flavors and specialties from different parts of Italy—each region boasting its own unique culinary traditions. From the rich, hearty dishes of Tuscany to the lighter, seafood-based meals of the Amalfi Coast, you'll discover the diversity that makes Italian food so beloved.

A key feature of my classes is the art of handmade pasta, where you'll learn how to craft fresh, homemade pasta from scratch, using traditional techniques. From delicate ravioli to tagliatelle, these sessions offer a deeper understanding of the Italian pasta-making process.

Additionally, the Market-to-the-Table experience is a unique activity where we take a journey through local markets to select fresh, seasonal ingredients. After handpicking the finest produce, meats, and herbs, we return to the kitchen to prepare and cook a meal inspired by what we've found. This activity not only highlights the importance of sourcing quality ingredients but also teaches you how to create a complete, authentic Italian meal from start to finish, with an emphasis on sustainability and freshness.

Finally, Modern Italian Cuisine combines classic techniques with innovative approaches, showcasing contemporary interpretations of traditional dishes. These classes are designed for those who want to learn how to balance tradition with creativity, using seasonal ingredients and modern cooking techniques to bring new life to Italian classics.

All classes are designed to be interactive and engaging, providing you with the skills and confidence to recreate delicious Italian meals in your own kitchen.
