Über meinen E-Bass- und Kontrabassunterricht:
In erster Linie sehe ich die Interessen des Schülers. Nach ihnen richtet sich mein individueller, am Schüler ausgerichteter Lehrplan. Ständiger Austausch zwischen Schüler und Lehrer bietet die Möglichkeit, Neues zu lernen und zu entdecken, was für mich den Reiz des Unterrichtens ausmacht.

Am größten Kanalknotenpunkt Europas, zwischen ehemaligen Kohlehalden, Kraftwerkstürmen und Industrieruinen wächst Andreas auf. Früh fühlt er sich stark zur Musik hingezogen, beginnt mit dem Erlernen der Gitarre und merkt schnell, dass ihm etwas fehlt. Wo ist dieser Groove, dieses tiefe, organische Brummen, das er in sich spürt?

Er begreift, dass der Bass ihm genau diese fehlenden Elemente bietet. Das Ende der Suche nach dem passenden Instrument ist gleichzeitig Beginn einer neuen, viel tiefergehenden Reise:
der perfekte Ton, die eigene musikalische Sprache und die persönliche Entwicklung – für Andreas sind diese Dinge seitdem untrennbar miteinander verbunden.

Er beginnt ein Studium an der Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen und wird dabei von John Goldsby, Dieter Manderscheid und Robert Landfermann unterrichtet., der sich in musikalischer Hinsicht als Traditionalist bezeichnet, sucht und tüftelt in den Folgejahren unentwegt an der Transformation von Tradition in die Moderne. Denn, Moderne ohne Tradition? Jazz ohne Geschichte? Das wäre schließlich wie Ruhrgebiet ohne Zechen, New York ohne Jazz und Andreas ohne Kontrabass. Es funktioniert einfach nicht.

Während seines Studiums ergeben sich für immer neue Möglichkeiten, die Grenzen seines Instrumentes auszutesten. Er wird fester Bestandteil des Bundesjazzorchesters, schreibt für sein eigenes Trio, geht auf Tour mit Popbands und spielt dabei auf jeder Bühne, die das Gewicht von ihm und seinem Kontrabass aushält. Die Begegnungen mit Musikern aus verschiedenen Genres fordern neu heraus, lassen ihn an seinem Spiel arbeiten und eröffnen ihm neue Perspektiven. Dass genau diese neuen Perspektiven ihm sein neustes Forschungsfeld erschließen, ist da nur konsequent. Was wäre Musik ohne Mozart, Brahms oder Beethoven? Und was wäre der ruhelose, ohne sich der Aufgabe anzunehmen auch die Präzision und Klangästhetik der Klassik zu erforschen?

Doch das, was für immer bleibt, ist der Jazz – ob als technisches Forschungsfeld, explosive Experimentierfläche oder philosophische Abhandlung. Das Beste an diesem ist, so meint er, dass jeder so sein darf, wie er ist und was er sein möchte. Es kommt allein darauf an, immer weiter voranzuschreiten und eine eigene, ganz persönliche Sprache zu finden.

Ce cours saura s'adapter à votre niveau de jeu : harmonies simples pour les débutants et plus complexes en fonction du degré de maîtrise de l'instrument.Ce cours comporte également une initiation poussée à l'harmonie.

About the Lesson:

Are you a music enthusiast that wants to start learning how to play? Are you an already good player but you want to further develop your skills?
In these lessons, we will create a curriculum together, based on your wishes, needs and musical taste. Our goal is for you to be able to express yourself through your instrument.
I will guide and help you to achieve this goal by providing the following classes:

- Contrabass (Jazz and Classical and any other style)
- Bass Guitar (Any modern style)
- Music Theory
- Solfeggio/ Ear training
- Jazz Harmony

All these classes can be taught seperately. Nevertheless, during our instrumental lesson we will cover a portion of the material of all the modules.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁
I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,...
After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw!

Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc.

I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard.

My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student.

Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you.

A bit about me:

Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.
