My name is João, his professional Classical Guitar with more than 15 years of experience. He has studied guitar performance at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Holland and in Musical Pedagogy at the University of Aveiro. In addition to classical music, he also has considerable experience in other genres, such as blues, folk and rock. Eu sou um professor fácil de lidar, com experiência com todos os tipos de guitarristas, de iniciantes a estudantes mais avançados. Eu toco guitarra há mais de 20 anos e com educação profissional em guitarra clássica nos últimos 15 anos. Tenho mestrado em Guitarra Clássica sob a direção do Dr. Goran Krivokapic pelo Prince Claus Conservatoire. Também tenho atuado como guitarrista elétrico em bandas progressivas e rock, além de ter experiência com guitarra blues, principalmente na dimensão do delta blues. I am a piano teacher with a specialized Master in Music Education and 19 years of teaching experience, in official music conservatoires, academies and private lessons. I am currently doing my PhD in Musical Sciences: Teaching and Psychology of Music.

Hello, I'm musician/guitarist/vocalist & singersongwriter since 2004. In 2009 I finished my studies in musical production (2 years) at ETIC in Lisbon and until now I've been developing various works as sound engineer, sound designer and guitar teacher.

Creative, committed and persistent are my main characteristics as a teacher, professional with 10 years of experience in musical production, sound engineering and guitar lessons. In 2014 I decided to move to London in order to improve in a more deeper level my sound engineer and mastering technics in LondonAmp – London Academy of Music Production where he completed the Sound Engineering Certificate course. It is never too late to start or resume learning piano! My teaching experience makes me a witness to this.

Perhaps you came looking for piano lessons because you wish to be able to play some particular pieces, or to develop specific skills. Or maybe you don't know what your goal is yet, but are fond of the sound of the piano and want to dive into this wonderful instrument. Whatever the case, I am looking forward to hearing from you and discussing your next step!

I try as much as possible to tailor the work with each individual student aiming at the goals set and the student's musical tastes. This becomes more the case the higher the student's level of experience. Nevertheless, beginners are also encouraged to suggest music for themselves to learn.

The work on pieces is combined with other important activities designed to develop finger dexterity, hand coordination, rhythmic sense, music reading, playing by ear, etc. The Cortot, Hanon and scale exercises are some of my frequent choices for the technical work.

For young beginners, I defend a no-book approach during the first 2 or 3 months, for three main reasons: it makes learning more fun, it unlocks our creative potential and it allows us to explore the instrument rather confidently and freely. Instead of learning how to read right from the start, students have the opportunity to play games, listen to music, sing, compose, and improvise over backing tracks, developing the core skills necessary for any musical activity later on. After this period, it is then time to introduce them to a method book. The one I recommend the most is Piano Safari.

For teenage and adult beginners, the activities described above are selected and adjusted, and theory concepts may be introduced at an earlier stage. If desired, graded level series such as the RSL Classical or Contemporary Piano, among others, may be opted for.

This class is for anyone who wants to get into piano or for getting their kids into piano. I teach in a relaxed but thorough way to help build skills for the independent student. No previous knowledge is required and we we learn a broad range of musical skills from the more traditional music reading and comprehension to the more modern jazz piano and reading chord symbols. My focus will be creating sustainable learning by creating a personalized and enjoyable plan for each student. Classes are taught in English but also speak moderate Portuguese to help if needed.
