I am offering structured English lessons for children to learn or play-based lessons for children to maintain and practise their English skills. Each lesson can be tailored to your child’s individual needs - whether they are already fluent in English or just beginning to learn :). During the first lesson I will assess your child’s level of English through a range of activities and conversation. This will allow me to gain a better understanding of their level of English and where is best to target. Each following lesson will then have a theme. For beginner speakers this will range from weather, sports, hobbies, colours, shapes, etc and for more advanced speakers writing, comprehension, reading and more complex phrases or English language grammar rules. At the beginning of each lesson we will review the previous lessons topic to ensure it has been retained before moving on to new knowledge. I use a range of resources to support my teaching including PowerPoints, prompt cards, images, bilingual cards and games. I have been teaching children for over 5 years and have a deep understanding of how they learn best and how to ensure progress. Each course will be specifically designed for each child to help target exactly where they are at and the goals they wish to achieve. Since the tutoring is 1:1, we are able to target individual goals. I am a qualified and experienced mathematics tutor. Graduated from the Free University of Brussels in 2011, I started my career by teaching remedial courses in different schools in Brussels. I then specialized in individual academic support by following educational training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice.
