My method focuses on practical, real-world conversation. Divided into 5 stages: 1. Objectives Increase the student's confidence to converse spontaneously in English. Improve speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills for everyday situations (work, travel, social conversations, etc.). Achieve visible progress, such as maintaining a 10-minute conversation without long pauses from the 5th lesson onwards, or using idiomatic expressions naturally. Adapting everything to the student's level and objectives (from your current level to your desired level). 2. Fundamental Principles Focus on the student: Lessons are built around each person's interests, needs, and goals (e.g., English for travel or casual conversation). I always start by assessing what the student wants to improve. Immersion and interaction: 70–80% of lesson time is dedicated to speaking and listening, with minimal use of Portuguese to simulate real-life situations in English. Positive Error Correction: I correct gently and in context (during conversations or role-plays), highlighting what was done well first so as not to demotivate. Flexibility: I adjust the pace and content according to progress — lighter classes for beginners, deeper discussions for advanced students. 3. Typical Structure of a 50-Minute Online Class Warm-up (5 minutes): Casual conversation about a current or personal topic to get in the mood. Example: "Tell me about your weekend — what was the best moment?" Main Activity (25 minutes): Interactive exercises related to real-life topics. Role-plays: Simulations of everyday situations (ordering food at a restaurant, job interview, discussing opinions). Discussions: Light debates based on news, videos, or podcasts (e.g., "What do you think about remote work? Why?"). Listening Practice (10 minutes): Short audio clips (TED Talks, podcasts) followed by summary and reaction. Focus on Conversational Skills (10 minutes): Mini-lessons on useful tools, such as idioms ("break the ice"), phrasal verbs, slang, or natural connectors. Closing and Homework: Review of the main points, light task (e.g., record a 2-minute audio on a topic), and setting goals for the next class. 4. Materials and Tools Resources: YouTube clips, podcasts (BBC Learning English), flashcards on Quizlet. Customized materials: Simple PDFs that I prepare or quick exercises. Technology: Use of Zoom or screen sharing; pronunciation apps when necessary. Follow-up: Shared document (Google Docs) to record new vocabulary and self-assessments. 5. Assessment and Progress Informal: Continuous feedback during conversations (e.g., reduction of hesitations over time). Milestones: Every 5 classes, I conduct a "conversational challenge" (timed debate), assessing clarity, vocabulary, and fluency. Adjustments: If the student has difficulty, I increase the use of visual aids or slow down the pace.
