Learning mindfulness is an important piece in any life. It helps us to learn coping skills that will be able to integrate as they develop. This class introduces the practice of mindfulness, movement, visualization and expression. Mindfulness is practicing the ability to cultivate moment-to-moment awareness of an individuals experience and present circumstances. This class includes an active yoga practice, breathing strategies, exercise and a drawing activity for ages 6-10 years old. We believe that practicing mindfulness is a life skill as well as an academic skill. This evidence based approach of learning brings an increased development of focus, self-awareness, empathy and coping skills. This class consists of 3 building blocks of information to fully allow the child to fully engage and retain. We look forward to seeing you in class!

This is a funny story about an old lady with a HUGE appetite. Based on the classic book about the old woman who swallowed a fly, this retelling with a twist features an old lady attending a Thanksgiving dinner who swallows a pie, then a whole squash, and the rest of the things she ate will surprise you. We will be working on comprehension, specifically sequencing. The ability to sequence events in a text is a key comprehension strategy. It enables retelling, which in turn enables summarizing. It promotes self-monitoring and rereading.We sequence all day long as we decide what we need to do first, second, and last. We understand events in our lives by understanding the order in which they occur. I look forward to sharing this book with you.
