I specialise in teaching English, Maths and English as a second language, using tailored individual tuition. I support learners with areas of missed learning, or where they want to move forward. I will establish a learning rate that suits the learner in order to boost confidence in areas of uncertainty. I use positive marking methods and aim to improve self-esteem along with subject knowledge.
I have experience in Dyslexia and ADHD and autistic learners as well teaching in a nurture environment. I communicate progress with parents/ carers.I am fully trained with GDPR and safeguarding and take this very seriously with online learning.

Présentation

I can teach Maths and specialise in KS2 and KS3 and Functional Skills.
I can teach English and specialise in KS2 and KS3 Functional Skills and English as a second or foreign language.
I have been teaching since 1993 and have seen a lot of changes in teaching over the years.
I believe that the most important thing is the learner and the methods that work for them and not any set programme.
I live in Cornwall and love taking my dog Cassy for walks on the moor or the beach.
I love reading and always have a book open somewhere.

Education

I have a degree in Engineering and business studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and a Masters degree in Education Management. My DBS is on the update service and my GDPR and safeguarding certificates can also be provided.

Expérience / Qualifications

I have experience as a primary and secondary teacher in both mainstream and special needs schools and have also run a nurture group in a school.
I enjoy teaching 1-1 or small groups as I feel that this method, including teaching online; brings the best out in learners as they gain confidence to join in with small group activities easier than in larger classes. I find that teaching online helps learners to blossom as they feel listened to and can be instantly rewarded for their success.
I have experience in teaching ESOL TEFL and IELTS and have taught outside of the UK and in summer schools as well as online.

I am a fully qualified teacher with twenty-three years' experience of KS3, GCSE and A-Level with many different exam boards, both UK and international. I am a former Head of Department and have taught in three prestigious independent schools in the UK. My style is highly effective and will not only rapidly improve your confidence to speak, listen, read and write but will give you a solid foundation of grammar on which to build, rather than just teaching you banks of vocabulary to memorise. My lessons are fun, engaging and interactive and I make all my own resources, which I tailor to suit the needs and interests of my individual students. Whatever your reason for learning French or German, exam help, test revision, ravel or just for the fun of it, I can tailor something for you. I recently realised, when my school moved to full-time online teaching via MS Teams, that students can get just as much out of online tuition as they can in a classroom, if not more!
